Death

Butterfly Matron

Many names, many connections, many similar and yet different views all point toward the current ruler of death and natural balance to be Hel. Or Manea. Perhaps Izanami, if you travel to Drakonia. Her exact name is none, and all of these as with many of the powerful deities in our world. What we know is that she seems to hold power over all death as a principal, transferring the souls naturally to the afterlife they are destined to, or the peace they deserve.
— Satori Ryuutei, Skyspear of Dra'Kun

Symbolism

The most evident symbol of the goddess depends on the culture in which you find her, but her most common symbolism would be butterflies. This is why in many cultures, the insects are viewed as symbols of reincarnation and life after death. Magic that has been granted, or empowered by her tends to have black, blue or red butterfly themes depending on the mood of the goddess, and the caster.   Divine interventions and signs that are often given to her followers as signs tend to be in the form of these same butterflys. Generally leading them through whatever the premonition in question may be, and seeing a butterfly in an unusual place, or in a situation of duress, is often viewed as a warning or sign from the goddess to follow it.

Beleifs

She and those whom follow her have a surprisingly simple and straightforward, neutral outlook on life and death. Despite there being some differences based on the cultures that worship her, all follow the same basic ideals: All death is natural and eternal. Ressurection is frowned upon unless in dire situations, as the natural cycle of the afterlife, and rebirth of the energy which a soul produces is her core focus as a god.   Her tenets focus on dominion over all forms of death, souls transforming to energy for reincarnation through the natural cycle, protection of the Aether, and maintaining the balance of life and death. She has no concern with the bodies that are left behind, only on the soul itself and shepherding it to its next point of existence, be that the Demiplane of the god whom they worship, or to ease the next stage of existence as a spirit to form into energy so that the cycle of rebirth can begin.   Due to this, many of her followers loath the undead, but only those which specifically reanimate the soul of a being. Low-level necromancy to create simple undead shells with no actual sapience are often even used in the clergies as guardians. Many priests will ask to have their bodies mummified ritualistically, and stand as guards to the various temples until the end of time, or they are destroyed.   The ultimate goal of her priests, fittingly, is death. But only after one has led a full life, achieving their goals, dreams, and maintaining the balance of the cycle. Once a priest has been killed however, they are unable to be resurrected, as she claims the souls of all her followers personally. Those whom have lived their lives dedicated to her, and her tenants, are often granted the powers of a guardian spirit of her divine power, named "Shinigami" or "Reapers" that serve as eternal servants and extensions of her will until they request to meet their natural end, and dispel into energy to facilitate the birth of new souls.
