Dangerous Designs

11th of Thunsheer After being in the city for several months now, Halisae had gained the trust and respect of most of the townsfolk in Lower Hupperdook, while walking through the streets searching for supplies of which she was rare to be in town for, she stumbled into Malekith Blackvon and Gideon Burns as they had reached the town in search of work. As they began conversing, the walls of the prison rumbled and blew apart as several hooded figures made their escape. The newly aquainted party quickly stepped into action and managed to stop the kobolds and Sken Zabriss in their tracks and handed them over to the Crownsguard and their Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle. After some discussion, they decide to officially team up and are hired by Bram and began their investigation at the prison where they met up with Yinra Emberwind, a bounty hunter who happened to have jumped on the case as well, mocking them for their unusual mannerisms. Finding that the explosion had come from inside and finding a piece of an unknown mechanism that may have caused it, the Crownsguard in the room gave them several ideas of where they could maybe find some clues.   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Session End   12th of Thunsheer The Party splits early on and investigates the clues found at the prison. Malekith and Gideon head towards the Lay of the Land Herbalist to learn of the red clay, to which Zendasa the shopkeep, points them in the direction of the volcanic caps of the Silberquel Ridge. Halisae heads towards the Neverbend Smithy to have her weapons honed. She finds a friend, Armin whom assists her in the honing and teaches her how to hone her own weapons as well. She then heads towards the Firemark Facility where she's stopped by the Gnome guard watching the front. Halisae manages to talk her way in using the watchmasters badge and manages to stop the Blast Gaffer, Sleese Firemark, and investigate the explosive powder used in the break out. Sleese insists and proves that none of his shipments have gone missing and speaks of his missing powder artisan which has put pressure on him to work harder to put out powder for the war effort. Halisae takes the info and heads back to the streets.   Gideon and Malekith make a stop by a foundry for Gideon to pick up a roll of copper wire for his Message spell. Afterwards the head to the outer edge of the city walls to the Builder's Plot towards a section with a large pile of metal sheeting where they find Cleff Tinkertop and his daughter Rissa hammering away on a metal glider. The moment Malekith takes the broken piece of bronze out of his coat, Cleff takes it from him stating that it is his design. Upon further inspection however, he finds that it is a poorly made copy of his design which leads him to recall a man named Huron Stahlmast who would go around the Plot copying everyones designs although very poorly. He supposably hasn't been back for several years.   As Malekith and Gideon begin heading back towards town, they bump back into Halisae at the gate and they have a run in with Yinra as she gloats once again about having found the culprit and was on her way to go get him then and there. Gideon slips away from the other two while they speak with each other and follows Yinra as she confronts Cleff demanding to know where he's hidden Stahlmast, to which Cleff has no idea where he may currently be. Flustered, she makes her way back to town and bumps back into Halisae and Malekith and attempts to push through them but is shoved by Halisae and tripped by Malekith and falls into a puddle of mud in the street. She quickly gets back up, brushes herself off and silently storms off. Malekith finds a paper she dropped which appears to be from the prison detailing a mysterious benefactor who helped Sken escape.   They party then heads to Nima's home and deal with kobolds that were keeping watch over her home in case anyone came to check on her. Gideon is brought nearly to death during the insuing fight but is revived as the rest of the kobolds are dealt with. They find a handwritten note detailing a spot within the falls where Nima collects guano for her own recipe for explosive powder. They return to the Smithy for a few items and Gideon asks about his sword to which he states that a man came through not too long ago with it bragging about it throughout the city as he headed northward. Gideon became furious with the news and had a flaming walk out of town briefly before calming down somewhat and they made their way into Upper Hupperdook where they came across the Some Tavern and rested for the night.   -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Session End   13th of Thunsheer After ascending the mountain, narrowly avoiding a hungry hippogriff along the way. The party found Nima held captive by Sken and a few kobold underlings, holed up under the mountain's waterfall. After dealing with them, they made Nima disguise herself as being captured in case more kobolds came in that direction. Inside, they manage to trick a few kobolds into believing they were on fire which led them to escape into a nearby room. They found Yinra captured and locked in a cell nearby, they freed her and made her take Nima to safety down the mountainside. They went to the room where the kobolds ran off to and managed to find Stahlmast's plans for mass weapons for the Kyrn Dynasty. The kobolds unintentionally left a secret door ajar for them to find which led them to Stahlmasts bedroom.   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Session End   13th of Thunsheer (Evening) Reveal Start: The kobolds that fled through the bookcase inform Stahlmast of the players' arrival. In an attempt to stop them, Stahlmast uses two kobolds filled with explosives to collapse the path between the bedroom and the workshop, forcing them to go around the long route.   Once the party recovered the sending stone and letter from Stahlmast's room, they continued to follow the kobolds that had escaped earlier into the next room. Before they could enter they heard the kobolds speaking with Stahlmast whom angerily ordered them to return and stop the party. Once they entered the hall, Stahlmast hastily triggers the kobolds explosives, collapsing the ceiling around them. Stahlmast mocks them and sets the lair ready against them.   They begin to head back and begin smelling food from the recreation room and see two kobolds bringing food out and setting it out on the tables. Gideon uses message to try and threaten them successfully. The party is spotted and the kobolds, Boris and Kole, invite them to eat since they do not want their food to go to waste. After a few moments, Gideon swiftly sets down and begins gorging himself. Malekith and Halisae join him and speak with the kobolds to which they realize that they are unintentionally helping the intruders. Malekith manages to convince them to work for him where they would be treated much better. Stahlmast speaks over the intercom once more to which the kobolds let them use the kitchen as it doesn't have a pipe for Stahlmast to hear.   After resting for a bit, they have Boris and Kole head back to the kitchen and they inform the party of the armory further ahead. They round the corner finding another kobold cursing under his breath as he washes several piles of laundry. Malekith sneaks up and grabs the kobold and pulls him over to Gideon as Halisae checks out the door. She finds the weapons and two sets of thieves tools and they all make attempts to unlock the door. Eventually they succeed and Gideon is immediately hit with the pungent smell of sulfur and warns everyone to keep their ignition sources out. Halisae grabs nearly 20 pouches of blasting powder from within then shuts it back up.   They hire on the kobold, naming him Godfrey and have him wait with the weapons that they had collected. Godfrey informs them of the mounted crossbow to the east and then of the shark tank to the west. They make their way over to the metal floor and each crosses it with ease, on the other side, Gideon sees Ishel and the kobolds he is training. Gideon successfully makes Ishel believe that his dark steel sword is due to break. Upon seeing Malekith, he has a bit of a freakout realizing that he may have to contend with Den Blackvon. Malekith manages to convince him to assist them as the the kobolds attack but shortly after changes his mind and joins the fight.   After defeating them, Halisae and Malekith look into Ishel's room while Gideon roasts the remainder of the kobolds in the next room. Halisae and Malekith head north to another room when the doors shut tight behind them and Stahlmast mocks them as he releases scalding steam into the room. Gideon has a meltdown seeing this and blows the door open then proceeds to use all of the remaining powder to attempt to blow the large iron door open but instead collapses the tunnel itself, forcing them to go around.   They come to a fork with an infirmary and the smithy, they get Roguun's attention and he attacks nearly killing Halisae before the others dispatch of him. They look into the infirmary and see where the explosives are placed inside of his kobold minions. They head through the smithy and storage and eventually confront Stahlmast as he gets into his creation, The Stahlmaster. After a very drawn out battle, Stahlmast's machine is destroyed and he manages to use the cover of fog to escape down his secret tunnel to the underdark and destroy the path following him.   The party gather up the remainder of their spoils and head down the mountain and meet Bran as he and several soldiers started making their way up towards the lair. Worn out and tired, the party chooses to deal with matters in the morning and tells Bram of what to expect above.   Session end — Arc End
