X-City

X-City is a major metropolitan city and autonomous region of the American States subcontinent. Founded by entrepreneur Leon Musket in 2109, it resides in what was previously Amarillo, Texas. Despite its founding, the construction of X-City did not officially conclude until 2159. The city enjoys access to previous Amarillo infrastructure, including the upgraded interstate railroad system that facilitates much of X-City's exports. X-City is situated in dry grasslands, though historically the area has experienced unpredictable weather patterns, receiving long periods of drought, tornadoes, hailstorms, floods, and more on a regular basis. This led the city to develop the "X-Dome" during its construction in 2116, which is X-City's fleet of autonomous weather drones that actively suppresses precipitants in the lower atmosphere, reducing the presence of natural disasters. Twenty miles northeast of the city is Lake Leon, which is dammed from the Canadian River and serves as the primary source of drinking water for the city.  As of 2200, the city boasts a population of 2,409,261, the 2nd largest of any city in the American States.

With Leon Musket winning the then United States’ presidential election in 2028, he pushed an agenda of the development of cybernetic technologies. Just a year after his election, Musket signed the Cybernetics and Economic Revival Tax Credit, which encouraged the Cybernetic Revolution by providing tax deductions to companies and people that develop these kinds of technologies. By the year 2077, nearly fifty years since this tax deduction was written in, cybernetic technology has evolved past just prosthetics.  Most of the United States’ population, about three fourths of the country’s population at the time, have actively exchanged or enhanced their limbs and other body parts with these implants. Some who believe that this is the future humanity should pursue have gone as far as replacing as much as seventy percent of their body with cybernetics. With the Cybernetic Revolution underway, President Musket decided to join it economically as an entrepreneur instead of just dictating policy as president. During his time as president, President Musket’s company X-Corp became the world’s largest manufacturer of cybernetic prosthetics, implants, and other bodily augmentations.

After 80 years of development in cybernetics, neurotech, and autonomous drone technology, Leon Musket decided to establish X-City in the year 2109. The construction of this location was started in northern Texas due to the open space and the cheap price of the land as the area was labeled as karst terrain, a region with very soluble rocks making sinkholes a potential risk. Once the outer wall and first sector was built, many people began to move to X-City to scout out the area and establish a reputation among the other potential denizens, many of whom were of the upper class. After 50 years of construction, X-City was officially fully constructed, complete with four power generators to support the technology of the city. Once X City was fully built, cybernetics and neurolink technology advanced by tenfold, with new and improved mods being peddled out, alongside more sophisticated implants. Seeing as the economic power of the city was strong enough to hold its own footing, Leon Musket had X-City seceded from the United States, and he officially became the dictator of the newly independent nation in 2132. With this action, the United States began to collapse as its main source of economic power was lost, and 3 years later in 2135 the US fully collapsed as all states declared independence. Meanwhile, as demand for cybernetic technology grew, Leon Musket began expanding the X-City factory facility in the southern side of the city by adding new floors on top of the existing building as there was no longer room to expand outward. As the buildings grew taller, the strain on the terrain grew until in 2178, the southern factor was destroyed in a sinkhole, causing severe damage to many of the residential districts nearby. As many of the materials being used in the factory were deemed as hazardous, it was deemed too dangerous to try and recover the lost technology and products being produced. However, in 2179, an unofficial settlement of X-City’s lower class decided to take residence in the sinkhole, and in 2185, this settlement became officially recognized as A-Town. They utilized the abandoned resources and tech from the incident in order to build themselves up.

Today, X-City is the world’s leading producer of cybernetics. About 80% of the city’s population (including A-Town) has some form of cybernetics. The percentage drops lower when you look at A-Town specifically, however.Only about 40% of A-Town residents are reported to have any degree of cybernetic implant, greatly separating them from the greater population of the city. Due to this separation, the residents of A-Town are not able to access many of the services provided to citizens of X-City, seeing as they require a cybernetic chip. This includes services such as real time news updates, high speed satellite connections, and free parking on weekends. In the upper city, average X-City citizens try to avoid interactions with those who live in A-Town, but there are large numbers of reports of gang activity spilling out of the sinkhole in the world above, especially in regards to illegal cybernetic peddling. X-Corp claims that they will use whatever resources available to them to put these violent groups in their place.
