Spirit

"Spirit" is a catch-all term used to refer to creatures that are made of Elemental Energy. All of the *Progenitors* are capable of becoming Spirits, however, they are not the exhaustive list. The majority of Spirits are native only to their Cosmos of origin - a Demon in Pandemonium, for example - but many have been located in the Mortal Realm. The two most commonly found Spirits are Angels and Demons, but *Ghosts* would also be considered as Spirits, as they are beings born from the Undead souls of mortals and are thus comprised of Cosmic Energy.   Spirits are incapable of existing outside of their home realm without attaching themselves to the material world in some way, or else having tremendous power in their own right. This is due to the fact that, being comprised of magic energy, they feed on the surrounding energy of their cosmos. A frost elemental in *Alakas* need not expend any mana, as they are surrounded by it. They live in a realm made of it. However, to remove them from that environment, they would need to use their own energy in order to persist. This anchoring to the material can come in many forms, but it is necessary for lower-level Spirits to exist in the mortal realm. It's for this reason that lesser Angels and Demons will possess animals. As these animals lack a Soul, but are alive, they are the perfect candidates for possession. Likewise, a mortal that allows their Soul to be pushed aside by an invading Spirit - be it by choice or failure to resist - can also become possessed, however this requires a stronger Spirit, as it takes power to supplant the Soul. Once this is completed, though, the Soul acts as a connection to the cosmos of the Spirit's origin, using the Gates to maintain themselves.   Spirits are also special because they never truly die. When felled, a Spirit's energy will return to their home cosmos, reforming into a new creature. For most, their sense of self and identity will be lost, but this isn't always the case.   There are also many creatures that are not strictly "Spirits", as they don't fit all of the basic criteria as laid out by the Hunter's Skepsis, but are nonetheless still Spirits in effect. An example would be the Dwarves. Their bodies are comprised of metal, but said body is driven by a flame born of *Ignethon*. In much the same way that the mortal Soul is that which gives the flesh life, the flame of the Dwarves does so for their bodies. These creatures are referred to as "Creatures of Spirit" or "descendants" of their cosmos. Again using Dwarves as an example, they are Descendants of Ignethon.
