Wura Wawlayi: Grass Dust Recipes

Historical Details

Background

Once news reached the Tuhran mainland that the grasses to their north were edible, a number of local theorists began thinking of ways to incorporate the flora into their daily meals- purely as a thought experiment, to be sure. Could the grass powder be incorporated into their meal? Should the dust itself be the meal? Each pursued his own on this matter, and soon sauces, soups, and sides were cemented in a set of supper suggestions. Granted, the additional powder did little to nothing to modify the flavor of said dishes, but the Tuhrans were pleased that the project came to a successful conclusion.

History

A group of twenty sailors was marooned on a small island off the coast of Unterritory. They were the first animals to settle there, and the only plants came from a tall grassland in the center. After many failed attempts which cost the lives of half their crew, they finally managed to morph the grass into edible, sustainable powder. They survived for a year on the stuff before their rescue by a military vessel. News of their survival was spread throughout the known world.

Public Reaction

At first, the recipe collection was largely ignored. After all, there was ample food for most of the populace, and most people weren't about to get stranded on a remote island. Years later, however, studies began showing that the specific species of grass used in the greater region possessed dietary and medicinal boons. It soon became a fad to digest this grass in unhealthy quantities, and soon the top chefs worldwide began taking notes from this cookbook.

Legacy

The Grass Dust Recipes would be the first in an unfortunately long line of cookbooks that catered to wealthy fad hunters who cared more about losing a negligible amount of weight than about enjoying wholesome meals. Each cookbook was more pretentious than the last. While grass dust did gain more flavor and nutrients through genetic modification, the same could not be said for its successor products.
