Wluwut Kaukroyi: Toilet of Titans
Purpose / Function
Welkwu had its own governance and guaranteed autonomy but always wanted to stay self-sufficient. No one knew when the Tuhran provincial government, hungry for the city-state's blossoming factories, would cut off Welkwu's food and water supply. However, Welkwu had very well-defined borders and couldn't build outside them. To maintain food supply, all public and many private rooftops became food gardens. Nuclear became the energy of choice. However, Welkwu needed a water source to supply its populace. A small lone plateau, the second highest point in Tuhra, bordered the town. This was the only plot of land that the Tuhran provincial government was willing to sell to the Welkyi, as the Tuhrans had no use for it. Little did they know that Welkwu would use that point to steal the water for most of Central Tuhra.
Alterations
At the top of the plateau, large fans were attached to tethers. These tethers were attached to hot air balloons and raised into the sky. As clouds moved in from the Strait of Uketya on southbound winds, the fans would start up, sucking the moisture in the clouds downward onto the plateau. The Welkwu authority had blasted and carved a large basin into the plateau, where the water would sit as a reservoir for the city-state. A large tarp lined the inland side of the plateau to prevent water vapor from escaping, giving the entire great work the semblance of a chair. A canal moved water from the reservoir to the thirsty community below.
Architecture
The tarp was painted with water-resistant dyes. One could walk along the full length of the tarp and see the full history of the people and government of Welkwu, a tapestry embodying every community and event, down to the local stone-cutting winners. A third of the tarp lay blank, in case any new history was to be cemented. The balloons above the site were each painted in unique, solid colors.
