Weloira: Water Food

History

Weloira is the T'kakou attempt to supply the tribe with nutrients in the absence of native plant life, ground minerals, and foreign trade. Most other tribes are heavily dependent on trade for, for example, Vitamin C, but the T'kakou wanted to be completely self-sufficient in case of emergency. Before the tribe knew anything about Vitamin C, the nomads all across the continent found themselves dying of scurvy. The meat of the local carnivores proved to combat this illness, and, while the other tribes found salvation off the continent, the T'kakou spent generations trying to perfect this technique.

Execution

The T'kakou find particular fish along the coast which are known for being sweet. They drain the fish of its fish oils and save it for later. They separate the sweetest parts from the rest of the meat. They cook everything, dipping the regular parts in freshwater for cleaning. The sweet parts are mashed up, stirred, and dried in order to have chum with high glucose levels. They hunt for one of Yatkaugo's few land-dwelling carnivores only to feed it the chum, ultimately trying to stuff the animal full. The carnivore, unable to do much on a full stomach, doesn't move far from its location. Meanwhile, the T'kakou travel to the nearest lake to eat their sun-dried fish. They make claims on who would kill the carnivore and how he/she would kill it, be it through trickery, sheer brute strength, or with a weapon. The warriors return to the carnivore. If the carnivore is sluggish from a sugar crash, tribesmen would take it on one at a time. If the carnivore is at full strength, the tribesmen take it on as a team. When the carnivore is killed, the one who strikes the final blow and the one who made the most accurate bet (or, if they're the same person, that man/woman and his/her spouse, or his/her chosen lover) harvest the liver and prepare it with the fish oils. The rest of the tribe cooks the primary meat. The two warriors collect the choicest parts of the cooked tangy liver, and everyone else presents part of their cooked meat in exchange for the rest. Thus the tribe provides itself with all the nutrients available to the men and women of other continents, while enforcing that both the strong and the clever support the tribe in their own ways.

Components and tools

The T'kakou use a mortar and pestle to crush shells and other objects which they didn't want to stick in their mouths whole. This provided a reasonable source of calcium.
