New Year's Resolutions 2026

Has it been a year already? I'm glad to put 2025 behind me, and after reviewing 2025's resolutions I can see that I felt the same way about the previous year. This year was less stressful personally, but everything else has been a dumpster fire. I'm not overly hopeful for 2026, but I'm planning to grit my teeth and get through it! I reccomend that you do the same!

New Year's Resolutions

2026 Resolutions

I wrote a short story for World Ember and I had such a great time doing it. I definitely want to write more fiction this year. My big goal is to write more of them. I want to come up with a sustainable goal that won't burn me out. Maybe one every other month or so? We'll see.

Inspiration Articles

I had a movie night with the kids last night (high school to college-aged) and let them pick the movies. They chose "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and "Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul". I'm understandably a little traumatized. So I whined about it in the Discord asking for some kind/fluffy articles and received enough to finish this challenge!

Edenian Calendar

by eccbooks

Starting with my accountabili-buddy and fellow Chris, E. Christopher Clark . This is a fun exercise in calendar creating futility! The in-world folks know that no one's going to use it, even Chris knows he isn't going to use it, but he did it anyway!

In the process, he created a fully functioning calendar that I hope someone in his world uses!

Whimsy

by strixxline

I actually picked this article for this list a few weeks ago, but actually sat down to read it today. In that time IRL turned into a giant mess and I needed this article more than I realized. Now... how do we import some of this so-called whimsy into our own world?

Hobbly Potoo

by Mochimanoban

Another fun species from our friend Mochi! These goofy birds appear to be too dumb to live. Nevertheless, they live by hiding out during the day and feeding at night. Thanks for sharing this mochi!

The Universe is Alive and Very Lonely

by AsterVela

AsterVela brings us an evovative article about the sentience of her universe. It's a lovely meditation on loneliness and creating the family that you need when you don't have one. As someone who has been lonely and created a family for myself, I loved the peace that this gave me. Highly recommended!

The Lost Jump Gate

by those2nerds

Rin writes about a fun and harmless(?) mystery that leads lonely, isolated people to a jump gate in their sci-fi universe that's inscribed with messages. It's a fun little article about community and a kind conspiracy theory that appears to actually be helpful!

The Narrator Who Wouldn't Shut Up

by Make lore, not wr

Here's a fun plot article from Make lore, not war about a town beset by a narrator who literally tells the plot of the townsfolks' day to day lives. Everything from romantic entanglements to crossing the street. The bit where the narrator narrates going to the toilet was especially hilarious. Sounds like there's a great DM in the sky who's running a non-combat TTRPG of some sort since there's a distinct lack of invading monsters and bar fights!

What I Made

So this month has been really tough for me creatively because... (waves around the world/country that I live in right now). I've been horribly distracted, distraught, and disappointed by lots of things completely unrelated to World Anvil.

But what I took from the articles I wrote is this: I want to get my stuff finished. I've been working on a conversion of one of Where Is My Alligator? to a pdf that I can actually sell. It's been at a 60% state for a long time and... I actually wrote the D&D 5.5E stat blocks for the main monsters. It's not "completion" but it's something.

Now to get it done and out the door. Fingers crossed and wish me luck!

I strongly relate to struggling to do anything during all of the everything else happening in the world. It's a big reason why I made the Lost Jump Gate and its accompanying scavenger hunt more wholesome and optimistic. We need a bit of hope these days, even if it's fantasy.   I'm glad you're celebrating progress toward completion. Best of luck getting things done, including your short story goal!

The world has really been something else... I can relate, as well. Best of luck! No matter what this year brings, may creativity give us hope. Thank you for including my lonely universe article. I'm glad it could give you some peace. <3

Hugs. The world is a mess, but I'm definitely happy there are people like you in it. :) Sending hugs and strength, and good luck on your goals. <3   The Boy in Striped Pyjamas is one of those films I will never watch again. :)
