Pirate King
"You think victory is within your grasp, do you? They speak of myths and legends, claiming I command the Leviathan... Let me make this clear to you, I do not merely control it... I am the Leviathan. Remember that, for it is the last thing you will ever forget."
Qualifications
There are no tests, no formal qualifications—only honor, power, and fear earned through actions. To become Pirate King, one must seize the title by force, cunning, or sheer dominance over the seas. It is not given; it is claimed.
Appointment
There is no formal ceremony, but legend dictates that whoever conquers The Crown- island, and overthrows the reigning Pirate King’s clan may claim the throne. However, to truly hold the title, all other pirate clans must swear their loyalty to the new king. Without their vow, the rule is weak, and challengers will rise until dominance is unquestioned. Or at least they must be feared of new king enough to not fight against him.
Duties
The Pirate King holds several moral obligations, though they are often shaped by pragmatism rather than traditional virtue. These include:
Protecting the Darktow Isles: The King is responsible for defending the people of Darktow from external threats, ensuring that pirate wars, conflicts with other factions, and even outsider forces do not devastate the islands.
Maintaining the Clan’s Strength: Protecting and strengthening his clan is paramount. This involves leading raids, consolidating power, and ensuring that his pirates remain the most feared on the seas.
Securing Trade Routes: The King is expected to establish and maintain new trade routes, bringing wealth and resources to Darktow, and ensuring that the islands thrive economically.
Ensuring the Prosperity and Protection of the Farming Colonies: Ensuring that the farming colonies provide enough food to sustain the population is crucial, as the islands depend on agriculture for survival.
Upholding Law and Order: While pirate rule is chaotic, the King must maintain some form of order to prevent anarchy. This may include enforcing laws on piracy, trade, and dealings within the isles.
Despite the brutal nature of the position, the Pirate King must ensure that the people of Darktow remain safe, well-fed, and loyal, as their support is what keeps him in power.

Benefits
Power: The most important currency is sheer dominance—control over the seas, the ability to command the pirate clans, and the fear that keeps rival factions at bay.
Money: Wealth flows from the control of trade routes, piracy, and the plunder of ships. The King is expected to ensure that the coffers remain full, funding fleets, building alliances, and keeping his forces loyal.
Territories: The Pirate King controls vast swathes of the Darktow Isles and their surrounding waters, as well as any nearby islands or areas of interest. The more territories the King controls, the more power they wield in trade and warfare.
Connections: The King must forge and maintain alliances with other clans, merchants, and potentially even outsiders. Diplomacy plays a key role in maintaining order and growing influence.
Fleet and Naval Power: Command over a fleet of ships is essential. The King’s naval strength is a direct reflection of his power on the seas, and keeping the fleet loyal and ready for battle ensures that he remains at the top of the pirate hierarchy.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Death: The most straightforward cause for dismissal is death. Once the Pirate King dies, the position is open for succession, often determined by strength, fear, and loyalty from the other clans.
Loss in War: If the Pirate King is decisively defeated in battle or in a series of strategic wars, the loss of territory, naval power, or the death of many loyal followers could lead to their downfall. A King who loses to an enemy, especially in a way that humbles their forces, could be seen as unfit to rule and might be overthrown.
Imprisonment or Capture: Being imprisoned or captured by a rival faction or enemy significantly weakens the King’s ability to rule. If captured and unable to lead, the King loses their legitimacy, and a new ruler may rise in their place.
Loss of Loyal Followers: The loyalty of the people, particularly the pirate clans, is crucial to maintaining power. If a Pirate King loses a significant portion of their loyal followers—whether through betrayal, desertion, or defection—it weakens their grip on the throne. If the other clans or key figures believe the King is no longer able to command loyalty or protect the islands, they may vote to replace them.

Source of Authority
The Pirate King rules not by law or decree, but through fear, power, and legend. His authority is not granted by a council or a divine right but by the whispered dread that spreads across the seas—the fear that he alone commands the Kraken, the Leviathan.
Length of Term
The Pirate King rules until someone kills him or subjugates his clan. There are no term limits, and a former king may reclaim the title—if they survive long enough to do so.

Your pirate king is cool, but I wouldn’t want his job. Too much responsibility, too much pressure, too much danger …
