Sir William Korvach
Sir, Lord Marshal
Korvach was big, even for a half orc, but that wasn't always the case. His full stature was late in coming and he had been a runt of a child, making him an easy target for the jeers and wrath of his tribe, and ultimately that was all they had needed as an excuse. Not that it had been much of a home. No, life in the Orc clans was tumultuous. Especially so for the half breed bastard of a slave. None of the males claimed him, and his birth mother passed on shortly after his birth. There was no such escape for him however, and after several years of torment and abuse, they'd no longer tolerated his presence. He'd been cast out, beaten and left for dead in the wilds of Moor. While he had always been clever, there wasn't much hope of escaping this death sentence of abandonment.
That's when he met her, the woman who would ultimately give him purpose, a sense of worth, and the knowledge of what family truly means. Korvach knew she was not his mother, but Cathryn played the role begrudgingly enough. Cathryn was a Paladin of Heironeous, and she taught him of her god, of justice, and of honor. His soul was thirsty for such purpose, and he drank from her teaching as deeply as he had the water skin thrown at his feet when she and her daughter Tavore had found him. Her daughter, and squire, had immediately stepped into the role of older sibling without the hesitation shown by her mother. She was several years older than him, and he took to her instantly. Over the years and travels grew to adore her fiercely.
Korvach's mother gave him a human name, William, after her father. She taught him to fight, as the knights did in her home of the Duchy of Foridia. He learned to how to read, how to pray, and how to use his shield and arms to defend those that needed mercy. He grew to manhood with tales of knights and brave deeds, countless battles where the hero stood up for what was right.
They all three knew the time would come eventually. Cathryn and his sister had their duties, and now he had his. He would journey to Foridia and become a knight. He would follow the teachings of Heironeous and make them both proud. Young William Korvach made his way south to Foridia with his mother's old sword, a well crafted shield, and a much worn suit of armor they had managed to outfit properly over the years.
