Ravenlight Keep

The fortress is more of a full castle than a keep. Six massive shewn stone towers connected by thick thirty foot high walls surround the square keep. Beautiful gilded windows symmetrically dot the keep itself, with arrow slits breaking in-between them. Its gothic architecture took much from the massive manor houses found in the City States of Vedania, with its dark gilded gables and ornate fences that line the keep proper. From first sight you can tell it is ancient, with moss and lattice vines crawling up the sides of the grey walls. From the lattices grow blossoming flowers of purple, red and white. Soldiers can be seen on the battlements, patrolling slowly. Ravenlight Keep sits on a round man made mound that helps it maintain a vantage of the surrounding countryside, including the large town of Travelers Gulch and the roadway that snakes north to south. It exists solely as an intimidating structure to any would be encroachments.   The remnants of The Border Wars can still be seen around the foundations of the hill, overgrown by the undergrowth. To this day reconstruction is still taking place along the walls. The fields below the hillock are riddled with shambled mounds of vines and crabgrass, and underneath them are the old weapons and encampments of the Royal Draugen Empire, leftover from when the long siege took place.   After the siege of 1658 and the brutal murder of family Ravenlight, the keep went under the command of the Archduchy of Whitesword. Since then, rumors persist of violent haunting and mysterious deaths within the keeps halls, rumored to be the vengeful spirits of family Ravenlight. The last remaining Border Prince alive is the young Prince Nicolas Ravenlight, whose campaign of vengeance seeks to eventually reclaim his families ancestral home.

Purpose / Function

Control of the roadway, protection of Travelers Gulch.

History

Construction began in 710 as an eastern border keep for family Ravenlight, one of the four original families of the Border Princes. By winter of 728, the keep was completed, and family Ravenlight took command of the fortress. There, they trained their soldiers, and began constructing the village of Travelers Gulch for those that wished to travel through the roadways.
