The Malkavian Primogen was embraced by the former Malkavian Primogen Maureen O'Leary. He would be a dutiful hand under Lodin's rule, assisting his claim for Praxis. At the tail end of Lodin's rule, Newberry's sire disappeared. With the seat of Primogen vacant, he took the position.
Newberry seems to have an interest in new Kindred. He often invites fellow kindred, mainly Malkavian's, to gatherings where they discuss their condition and work through their feelings.
While on the surface he tries to portray an innocent act, his actions show another side entirely.
He ran afoul of the Undecided Coterie, making many overtures towards Betty, distrust of J.R., disgust of Lucian and fascination with Stefan. He made it very clear during the Lasombra negotiations that he was against their entry. He even assaulted Stefan, drinking his vitae, when he caught Stefan infiltrating Chicago-Read Mental Health Center.
Newberry also ran afoul of the Asylum Coterie. He would become a recurring annoyance for the coterie. This doubled after the night of the Asylum Elysium. Newberry was given joint charge of the Toreador of the Coterie, Elyse Verrill. After the Asylum Coterie captured one of the Seven Flames, Clarence Bartleby, Newberry liaised with the Chicago Chantry with what to do with their new prisoner. The Chicago Chantry made a deal with the Milwaukee Chantry to return Bartleby to them.
The last task given to the Asylum Coterie was by Newberry who organised for the transport. Before they were to depart the coterie would be cut down to just Jack and Elyse with Ace walking away, Lou seemingly meeting the Final Death and Julie seemingly leaving Chicago. Jack and Elyse left Chicago with Bartleby in tow to Milwaukee, they have not been seen since. The loss of this potential influence seemingly grates on Newberry.
Newberry would try to worm his way into the graces of Trinity by offering to help discover the identity of her sire. She would see him for the snake that he is and would decline his offer.
When Ace's grandfather, Pablo, had a medical emergency - he was taken to Lakeshore Hospital. Ace would learn that there was haemorrhaging within his grandfather's brain, with the excess fluid causing swelling. They would need to relieve the pressure by a burr hole to drain the excess blood from his brain. Ace would agree to the surgery which seemed to be a success. While Pablo began to stir, a dark cloud would dampen this moment. The doctor looking after Pablo would be Dr. Loomis, the alias of Jason Newberry. Newberry, under the guise of Dr. Loomis would share a tense exchange with Ace. When in private, Ace would aggressively confront Newberry. While Newberry would claim to only wish for his grandfather to recover, Ace knows that Newberry is not to be trusted. Newberry would remind Ace of the debts he "owes", two notches to Horratio Ballard, the Primogen who stuck their neck out for the Asylum coterie and now him saving his grandfather. He would warn Ace that the debt collector will come one night.
