Mithras

'Oh my brothers, our beloved Dark Prince befell a foul fate. It is true, he no longer walks among us. The Lord Mithras fell during the Kine's second Great War - as unbelievable as it is. The truth is that Lord Mithras has fallen and we remain. But Mithras still lives on within us all. We here continue to serve his excellency and will continue until the Lord will eventually return. He WILL return and we will be the Heralds of his glorious resurection.'

- Pater Thomas at a Mythratic Mysteries Coven
The once ruler and lord of London, Mithras has always ruled London - even when she was not called by such name. Before there were Princes, before there were even a Camarilla, there was Mithras. He was an elder Vampire who took Princedom over the region then known as Avalon. He bought order, rule and enforced stability in those chaotic Dark Ages. The rules and reforms that Mithras established would eventually be appropriated by those who created the Camarilla. In fact, during the Anarch revolt, Mithras held his hand, not joining fellow Blue Blood Hardestat the Elder with the Convention of Thorns. He didn't rule over the Court of Avalon to be a puppet to a shadow empire, he ruled for himself. Few would dare to oppose a Methusula such as Mithras.   Mithras' legend and power was so great that a cult like mentality grew around him. He was a God to those who worshiped him and the Mythratic Mysteries was born. A cult born with the worship of the Dark Prince in mind. Mithras surely had no qualms with such a society. The Mysteries helped Mithras maintain his ironclad grip over the domain that would eventually be known as London.   As is the case with many elders, Mithras grew bored - he willingly went into torpor and left his empire to his Seneschal, Valerius. When Mithras arose in the 1800's he was horrified to see that the borders to his kingdom had been opened to the Camarilla. Enraged, Mithras disavowed his Seneschal and replaced him with Valerius' own childe, Lady Anne Bowsley . It was at this time, that Mithras saw his influence over London wane. Dissent was beginning to form within his court - something that Mithras had to have disliked greatly.   Mithras fell during World War II - he was a victim of the blitzes over London by Nazi Germany. In his absence, Lady Anne Bowsley ascended to regency becoming Queen Anne. Mithras became a legend, a name spoken with reverence. But Mithras' name would not simply die. The Mythratic Mysteries continued. His worship continues. Many of those still within the cult believe that Mithras is merely resting and will rise to reclaim London once more.
