Sabbat

The Sabbat is a loose organization of Cainites who reject the Traditions. Unlike the Camarilla, the Sabbat believes in the Antediluvians and Caine. Also known as the Sword of Caine, as they believe they will be the army Caine will use to destroy the Antediluvians once Gehenna arrives.   Of the three factions, the Sabbat held New York City the longest, from the 1600s all the way to 1999. First ruled by Bishop Ecaterina the Wise, the city changed Bishops several times before the Battle of New York. During that time, the city fell under the rule of Archbishop Francisco Domingo de Polonia, who murdered then Prince Michaela under the guise of brokering peace between their sects. During the Battle of New York, the Sabbat were severely outmanuevered by the Camarilla, though they nearly rebuffed their opponents with the help of Lambach Ruthven. Had he not fled the city following a mysterious encounter in the sewers, it is likely that the Sabbat would have held onto the city for much longer.   After the rise of the Second Inquisition and the start of the Gehenna Crusade in the Middle East, the Sabbat has (seemingly) given up on controlling the cities of America and flocked to the war zones of the world. However, most Sabbat domains are still out-of-bounds to the Camarilla. A "Gehenna War" between the Camarilla and the Sabbat is being waged in the Middle East and the disputed regions of Ukraine. The conflict began as the majority of the Sabbat abandoned most of its domains to wage what they perceive to be a pre-emptive "crusade" against the coming Antediluvians. In response to this aggression, the Camarilla began fighting them back in order to preserve the Masquerade and to protect torpored methuselah from any Sabbat war parties who may confuse them for Antediluvians.   While the Sabbat does not maintain an open presence in the city, those who were on the Anarch or Camarillan sides of the conflict often eye Sabbat defectors warily, as if they are serpents lying in wake for the perfect time to strike. It is also possible that the Sabbat might have sent younger Kindred into the city to retake it and ready the world for the return of Caine.
