Anarch Movement
The Anarchs especially resent the privileged status held by elders within the Camarilla and other vampire sects; when the eldest hold the most power in a society of immortals, the lot of neonates is not a happy one. As such, they are naturally targeted for recruitment by the Sabbat.
Most of the Anarchs respect and uphold the Masquerade and some of the other Traditions, even if they do not respect the vampires who enforce them or the system that benefits from them.
Under the terms of the Convention of Thorns, the Anarchs—like all vampires—were until the early 21st century considered a faction of the Camarilla by its members, but unlike the Sabbat, they were tolerated.
While the anarchs existed side by side with the Sabbat during their rule of the city, they rose to prominence in the early 1900s when a Sabbat Ventrue named Douglas "Boss" Callihan defected to their sect, seeking to rise in another group, since there seemed to be something of a glass ceiling because of the clan he had been Embraced into. While some Anarchs cooperated with the Camarilla's conquest of the city during the Battle of New York, Callihan ruled that the faction proper would sit out the conflict, in an effort to maintain neutrality with whichever faction won in the end. Once the dust settled, Callihan attempted to ingratiate himself and the Anarchs with the Camarilla, though the fact that most of their agents in New York City were younger kindred did nothing to help his cause. Callihan failed to seize any new territory for the Anarchs as their Baron, and the Anarchs were quickly relegated to Staten Island by the Camarilla.
The world of the Anarchs was rocked in 2010, when the Second Inquisition was brought to their door during Operation Spotlight. A number of young Kindred were slain during the attacks, and while the Camarilla did sustain some losses, the Anarchs took the brunt of the damage. A number of up and coming young leaders were lost to the strike, and the community reeled for some time, trying to rebuild what had been lost. However, in the wake of the Conclave of Prague, an Anarch coterie calling themselves Carpe Noctem uncovered the truth: Callihan, in some sort of blood-bound relationship with Camarilla Prince Hellene Panhard, had exposed several of his staunch opponents, as well as a few Camarilla fledglings to the Second Inquisition. In light of the information, the Anarchs lashed out, catching Callihan and Panhard in one of their secret rendezvous and overpowered them, forcing both leaders to meet Final Death on Ellis Island.
Once the Camarilla had been driven out of the city, the Anarchs focused on restructuring. Having seen what could happen when one person held all the power, they opted for a more representative form of government. Each borough would have one member on a council, elected by the Kindred who lived within their greater domain. These representatives would serve a term of 5 years, until one of them left the city or met Final Death, whichever came first. Over the last ten or so years, the August Council has served the movement well, enforcing the Masquerade but largely allowing the Kindred within the city to do as they pleased. With the Council's first formal clash with the Camarilla on the horizon, the Anarchs will see how their leaders will fair in a possible wartime environment.
