Many thanks to Lightcycle for graciously sharing his character with my world.

Quyvaril Dawnchaser (a.k.a. Key)

Key Dawnchaser is a holy man and warrior from Eastern Talanas. After being forced into work as an adventurer and mercenary, he's been active in the region known as the Tormvald Plateau, particularly in and around the town of Orst Aerie.

Key's Story

Quyvaril Dawnchaser, called Key by those closest to him, has no memory of any family he was born to. His knowledge is second-hand and comes from the residents of a the monastery where he lived until reaching adulthood. The monks told him that he was rescued as an infant and raised amongst them. His high level of reverence for the divine was uncharacteristic and the life of the faithful appealed to him. He spent his entire adolescence as a missionary with his brethren. It wasn't an easy life but it suited him.   Key joined the fight the instant the War of the Night King broke out. There was talk that the aggressors were agents of evil so there was no question about his decision, even though he was just 15 at the time. Key fought until the so-called Night King was reportedly destroyed and then continued fighting. The war dragged on into its second and third year after the apparent victory. Finally, Key had enough and he left and returned to his brothers.   The fighting followed him, however. A pointless war raged across Northern Talanas and many innocents got caught in the crossfire. The futility of the conflict was culminated by the razing of his order's village during a battle that took the lives of many of his loved ones. It was this catalyst that triggered another calling within Key; the call for vengeance. In the autumn of CA 21, Key headed south and made his way to the Tormvald Plateau.

Key's Descriptions and Mannerisms

Key stands a lanky 6 feet in height and looks much older than he actually is. It's not surprising considering how hard the life he's lived has been. His face carries wrinkles that would never be expected of someone in his early-20s and his long black hair has quite a bit of grey already. But though he may look older than he is, he's still in excellent physical shape.   During times of crisis, Key alternates between prepping his prodigious magical strikes from a distance and mixing things up, up close with more traditional melee attacks. He's so fearless that others might mistake it for recklessness but it's not. It's just that Key seems to be driven by a seemingly unnatural inner strength.

Blood and Fire

I wet my blade on a beast's burning blood today. It was the first time in months and I felt her stir from her winter's slumber as my body burned in the boiling ichor of the insectoid creature. It was battle, not war as she most deeply craves, but as I serve her my own strength increased. Strength, I fear, I will need in earnest not only on the paltry errand but moreover as I once again begin tracking my targets.   Much to my surprise, I find myself quite enjoying my new allies. They proved themselves to be capable in combat, which I always have had an eye for, but more than that they are... fun. I find the journey with them to be more pleasant the wandering alone and, perhaps, if I can foster my bonds I will find allies to snuff out the two lives that destroyed everything I held dear. Still, as my wounds mend with ointments and rest I feel the blade begin to resonate with her power and I know she wants more. Perhaps the goblinoids that we spotted will be the next to pour their blood into her maw and try to slake her endless thirst.   Marha forgive what I must do, though she can be as much of a Warhawk as the other... so perhaps I have not strayed as far from my faith as I fear. I suppose only time and reflection will tell.

A Long Winter
CA22

Thank the gods that the weather is starting to break and the world is moving again.   While it is a blessing that Dain and I arrived at Orst Aerie before the storms got too bad, the winter months have been intolerable. Not only have I had no luck in finding leads regarding the burning of Gleann Righ, but it has also been a struggle to gain enough part-time employment to scrap together housing a food, though this is not just an issue for me and my new friend. The city, like so much of the continent, is still recovering from the war and is running low on everything. Still, as spring breaks there are finally prospects that might change my... difficult financial situation, and more so, finally, allow me to learn more about the battle that destroyed my home.   The blade has been whispering to me for months. She wants blood to flow again, vengeance to be had. My prayers to Marha don't do much to silence her insistent pushing and prodding. More than once I almost drew the blade against a petty pickpocket or market stall owner who was gouging his prices. I need to learn more, I need to turn the blade against those who deserve it before her pitch-black ichor pours into my mind and stains it thoroughly.   Luckily we finally have leads for a job and (quite suddenly) an interesting group of new friends. The town council wants their mine running again and we have been given the job to find out why shipments have stopped and get them running again. The pay is potentially quite good, assuming the issues at the mine are solvable by fire and steel. There are the added complications of the mercenary guilds who 'dislike freelancers' but then as a former soldier myself, I'm hardly a fan of mercenaries.   Hopefully, our new little group can handle things without too much drama but there is always the blade if things go south. Either way, soon I shall once again take the lives of those deserving of death... or at least the lives of those who stand in the way of my revenge.
