Kala
Goddess Kala (a.k.a. Goddess of Darkness)
Kala, Also known as the Dark Goddess and the Goddess of Darkness, is one of the first gods of Araes. Born from Niltia and Igmus, the primordial beings of night and day respectively, she would quickly grow to represent darkness and disorder while here twin sister, Ava, would be the goddess of order and light.
Kala favoured entropy and disorder, he did not care for the balance nor the life that thrives on Araes. Towards the end of the Age of Life, Kala tricked the primordial Cretio into teaching her the art of creating life. Kala played the part of the good student until it was time to reveal her intentions. With Kala's newfound power, she poisoned some of the elves and humans, transforming the unfortunate humans into brutal orcs with an endless thirst for blood and combat and the elves into evil perversions of themselves known as Drow. She tainted dwarven babies, turning them into the first goblins. And, using her own muse, began to create foul creatures and dark spirits. All of her creations shared her thirst for chaos.
After realizing the horror she created, Ava enlisted the help of the other gods in the hopes of stopping her, but her power was too great and the world was slowly dying. Out of desperation, Ava went to Cretio who vowed to never teach anyone again, and convinced him to help her create a counter to Kala's forces of destruction. And thus came the valkyries. Immortal beings of light and order who almost wiped out Kala's creations. Unfortunately they were not able to stop them all, but eventually Cretio's original creations would grow and adapt to the new threats, once again bringing order to Araes and beginning the First Age.
Battle for control
Kala was in an intense rivalry with her twin sister, Ava. Their rivalry would soon become a constant battle to maintain or destroy balance in the world of Araes. Ava was the goddess of order and light, her duty was to maintain peace and balance not only in the world but also between the gods themselves. This balance was in place for if the gods were to fight, it could shatter the world beneath them.Kala favoured entropy and disorder, he did not care for the balance nor the life that thrives on Araes. Imprisonment
Enraged that the gods would challenge her, Kala tried to take revenge on her sister. Ava knew of this plot and, with the help of the other gods, tricked Kala into following her until they reached the Aether, the space between spaces. Once their Kala and Ava thought an epic battle where none would know who would win. The two would fight until both were weak. Eventually Ava made her retreat out of the Aether. Kala, realizing Ava's plan, chased her sister in an attempt to escape or atleast take her sister down with her. Ava left the Aether just in time as it closed behind her. The Dark Goddess was trapped and imprisoned inside the Aether, never to return to reality. The Grim Order of Kala
The Order of Kala, typically referred to as the Grim Order of Kala, emerged during the mid First Age. The order was started from priests of Ava who were taught the story of the twin goddesses. Members of the religious sect began agreeing with Kala's philosophy and began promoting chaos and disorder. The members were shunned and kicked from the sect. These members founded the Grim Order, devoted to their dark goddess. The order would later learn ways of connected to Kala, who was still imprisoned in the Aether, and she would begin manipulating them in the hopes that they would one day set her free on the world.Holy Books & Codes
The most infamous book devoted to the goddess Kala is the Tome of Spite. The book serves as the main holy book for the Grim Order of Kala, retelling the story of Kala's fight with Ava and containing all the knowledge the Order has learnt in regards to the goddess and black magic.
The tome is filled with so much dark magic that the book itself is considered evil and treated as cursed objects. The Tome of Spite is highly illegal throughout all of Araes except for the Forbidden Badlands. Because of this, very few copies of the cursed tome exists. The few books that do exist, and not owned by members of the Grim Order, are locked away forever, out of sight from the general public.
Kala, along with various forms of black magic, are also referenced in other dark books such as the Book of the Dead and many dark grimoires, used by evil witches and warlocks, especially necromancers.

Divine Symbols & Sigils
Kala is often represented by the Sigil of Kala, used by the Grim Order.
The sigil can be found on books written of the dark magic and in areas where the Grim Order have practiced their worship. The symbol, when carved onto any surface, is often cursed with dark magic, attracting evil spirits and monsters to it. Some of the more powerful members of the order can curse a carved symbol with the ability to link to Kala in the aether. From there she can reach out to anyone near the symbol, manifesting in their minds as whispers.

Divine Goals & Aspirations
Kala's one true goal is to bring disorder and destruction to all creation. Her hunger for chaos is unmatched and she has been left starved in the Aether in which she is imprisoned. She longs for the terrible day that she is free from her cage and can take revenge on the gods and bring the world and the universe itself back to darkness.
Her goals are mostly lost to time, for none now live who remember and with each generation, teaching of the Age of Life slowly turns to myth and legend. Most people believe she would never return, if she was even alive in the first place.
The Grim Order of Kala are aware of her goals but centuries of manipulation has left them believing that her destructive desires are purely exaggerated and that her goal is simply to bring down order and breathe a new era unruled by any leader.
