The legend of Witches' Pass describes a narrow mountain pass in the far flung regions to the northwest of Shertoona. No known settlements lie beyond this area, and travel becomes increasingly difficult in this region.
Stories are told of a group of ghostly women who appear and block a mountain pass which allows no further travel through the region. It is said anyone who does not heed the warning to turn back is never seen again.
As happens with folk and urban legends, this story has changed over time. A respected inventor is claimed to have set out with a camera to try and prove or disprove the existence of the so-called witches. The story says he disappeared without a trace.
Rumors are told of an expedition party to rescue the man finding only his camera, apparently set up for a self-portrait, with no other belongings or physical remains to be found.
When the film plate was taken back to town and developed, it revealed a ghostly image of the notorious witches of Witches' Pass, except now joined by the missing inventor. The man in the story was never seen or heard from again.
