Helm of the Redeemer Item in World After Tiamat | World Anvil

Helm of the Redeemer

This helm is imubed with the spirit of Sidro the Redeemer, a sapphire dragon god who, like all members of his race, moved to the Material Realm and hid themselves in items to escape the war between metallic and chromatic dragons. Sidro was one of the last gem dragons to retreat from the world in this manner, however, and instead lived in a remote underground cave system of his own making.    Sidro got his title because he would grant a boon to anyone who was desperate or clever enough to reach his lair and could convince him of their need for such boon. Sidro was not moved by any reason that indicated a lust for power or treasure; he was most often convinced by a person's need to right a past wrong. He would grant them a portion of his strength (which weakened him temporarily, but could be recovered over time) to accomplish their goal and send them on their way.   However, as time went on, the tales of Sidro the Redeemer fell into legend. This was partially due to how difficult it was to access his lair since so few people could even find the entrance that others disbelieved their stories. Fewer and fewer people came to visit Sidro and those who did were often large expeditions funded by a rich noble in search of lost treasure rather than plucky heroes desperate to restore their honor. He became dissatisfied with this life and eventually sealed off his cave entirely and then went into a form of hiberation that gave up his physical form, appearing to be a sapphire deposit in a massive cave underground.   Then, Bob fell through the roof of this cave. He can fly, so he wasn't harmed, but he had just come from Brad the Baffling who refused to sign a pact with him because he was so weak. Bob was despairing of ever being able to avenge his friend and wondering whether he should just stay in this hole, when the sapphire around him suddenly spoke.    "Do you seek strength?" it asked.   "Yes!" cried Bob.   "What do you want it for?"   "I will kill the person who killed my friend. I wasn't strong enough to help at all in the battle where he died. I want to take revenge and then never allow a friend to be killed again."   "That is a worthy goal. You shall have it granted."   And with that, the sapphires glowed so brightly that Bob had to close his eyes and bury his head under his claws. When he opened them, a golden helm with a sapphire accent sat in front of him. When he put it on, Sidro gave Bob all of his abilities and sapphire gems appeared all over Bob's body. He was instantly much stronger and found that he could also tunnel through solid rock and hide his appearance.   Bob went back to Brad the Baffling with his new power and received a signed pact. Bob was looking for more opportunities to gain experience and strength, when Brad died and the Benefactor told them all that they would have to kill each other to gain strength, Bob asserted that he only wanted to kill Zinyra and the Benefactor pointed him in the right direction.
