Bioluminescence

Bioluminescence is an event that occurs every 3-5 years, when the bioluminescent algae in the Sea of Woodangees blooms and begins to glow, creating large patches of glowing water and even attaching to some animal life, such as the feathers of the blue coastal penguins. Every now and then bioluminescence will coincide with with the penguins molting period, creating a massive march of glowing penguins along the western coast and islands.   Bioluminescence is often celebrated throughout the islands where it can be observed and large local festivals are held. Despite this many of the festivals will have "glowing water" for sale, with some of the festivals in provinces with more relaxed regulations advertising that the water gives you vitality and strength or aid with health issues. The Federal government will often have psa campaigns during the bloom advising against this practice and warning of the possible risks, nevertheless hundreds are hospitalized every time bioluminescence occurs.
