Naielle Odelia Character in Wonders | World Anvil

Naielle Odelia

Naielle Dakiir Odelia

Naielle Dakiir Odelia is a Sylvian Celestial Warlock, bonded to the star Alcor. Since the year 217, she has been a resident of the Prosperity of Welvarend. She is currently acting as the shipmaster of the junk Xistina and navigator for it and the trade vessel Pendagast, as part of the Jade Sea Expedition.

History

Naielle is the 5th of the 7 children of Laucian Amamion and Oriphira Odelia, born in 114 alongside her older twin brother Quenaris. She, along with all her siblings, was raised on the grounds of Odelia University, an institution founded by her grandmother Saroel. She studied at the university during her youth, specialising in history and astronomy, and working on multiple research projects under history professor Jean-Theren Wysaphine.   While her adolescence was altogether uneventful, there were some exceptions. The most notable was when she and her childhood sweetheart, Xistina Rosseau, were the target of a harmless prank played by a classmate. Rather than taking it in stride, Naielle orchestrated an act of elaborate revenge, sabotaging one of their assignment submissions. When this was discovered, she was suspended from that class for the rest of the semester and forced to redo it - the one mark on an otherwise stainless academic record.

Adulthood

In 216 she was given her biggest research project yet - to detail the histories of the early Sylvian states which had preceded the Sylvian Empire. Under Professor Wysaphine, she set about travelling to various parts of the Empire to find information and examine the archaeological record.   After getting suddenly engaged to Xistina in 217, and dealing with their families judgement over that decision, Naielle began collating all her findings thus far. Despite her efforts, some information eluded her, and her inability to move forward frustrated Wysaphine. In desperation, Naielle sought the help of a higher power - Alcor, the Forgotten Star - in the hopes they might have the information she needed to tie her research together.   With Alcor's help, she learnt the true origins of the Sylvians - that rather than being native to Yerovera, they were refugees from a shattered plane of reality. After first finding some sources to back up this theory, she presented her findings to Wysaphine, as even though it was not directly related to her research she believed it was important.

Exile

Two days later, Naielle was arrested by imperial officials while at her university's library. After being interrogated for a few hours on suspicions of spreading treasonous writings, she was released under the proviso that she head home immediately, which she did. However, only a few hours after returning home, she left with as many of her things as she could quietly carry, and snuck off the campus grounds.   As she was leaving Avaricon, she took a detour to Professor Wysaphine's, attacked him, and stole his horse. With this, she was able to quickly ride to Burdigala, selling the horse to pay to board a ship bound for Welvarend. Once there, she sought refuge with her mother's cousin, Eloisa de Walle, and stayed with her for a number of years.   After a few years, Naielle joined the Welvarend Navigator's Guild, on the recommendation of Eloisa's merchant son and granddaughter. In 236, through her guild connections, she was brought aboard Pendagast to act as its navigator on the upcoming Jade Sea Expedition.   Campaign Events
Welcome to the shittily written campaign summary, baybee.

Module 1

After helping to save Meng Cai and her crew from the strange metallic shark, the Pendagast docked in the town of Kotahui. She, Talia, and Vandervest went to the Imperial Fort to meet with Commander Yao Shuzhu, and to learn information about the island and the Jade Empire of which it is a part.   When news came that the expedition's flagship had been attacked by the metal shark and needed urgent repair, Naielle and Talia were brought to see a local forest spirit to ask for permission for the boat to be beached upon a nearby sandbank. This was necessary because the forest spirit was known to despise men, many of whom were aboard the ship and needed to be informed that they could not come ashore unless they went to Kotahui itself. The discussion with the forest spirit led to some introspection on Naielle's part, which is never ideal.
Kappa
The crew next travelled to the Kappa colony on the island, following a lead that suggested they might be involved with the metal shark. Though they were attacked by the young guard Jaharu, Naielle was able to convince her to stand down and let them in by saying they had come on behalf of a concerned Kappa merchant called Lee, whom the group had met in Kotahui.   Within the colony, the group travelled into the large shell to investigate the disappearance of all the adult Kappa, fighting mushrooms and a fucked up frog corpse being puppeteered by the centipede. Further investigation led them to a locked room, an aberrant pool, and a guy in imperial garb in a cage. After a back and forth on whether he could be trusted, Naielle released him and cut his bindings, and he promised to lead the group out. When they came to a narrow ledge, he tried to throw Talia off a cliff, and a panicked battle ensued. In its course, Naielle and Marius were both knocked unconscious.   When the traitorous monster was killed and the two revived, an angry Naielle knocked his corpse off the ledge into the abyss below. This turned out to be a bad idea, as his blood was a key component in a mind control concoction being used to force the Kappa into the service of a pirate crew called the Emerald Festival.
Investigation
Upon returning to Kotahui, Naielle went to see Ridwan and ask after the Emerald Festival, after a failed trip to try the same at the tavern. Ridwan informs her of the agreement between the Festival and the locals of the island, but that they were unaware of the slavery. When Talia informs them an imperial detachment is headed north to make an arrest, the group are teleported to the town of Kupang to investigate before they arrive. The old lady Sanne, who has been talking to the Festival, agrees to work with the imperials to end the shark attacks.   A fight ensues between the imperials and the pirates, in which the imperials (with the aid of the party) prevail. Though they fail to get any information about the commanded Ryon Jong-Yul, they get much out of Nang Jung-ho, who Naielle had nearly killed. He is spared an imperial execution by joining the crew of the Pendagast.   Naielle prepares to take the Pendagast to the hideout of the Emerald Festival by communicating with her patron, Alcor, for the first time since she formed her pact. With their knowledge, and a pledge to oppose all abominations, Naielle has a map of the treacherous reefs around the island. She also aids in Talia's efforts to create a cure to the Kappa mind-control, in the process learning that the slime present comes from Aboleths.   The ship sets sail in the middle of the night to avoid imperial involvement, though said imperials were vomiting uncontrollably and were unlikely to be useful in any case. When they come to the reef, Naielle fucking panics and the ship nearly runs aground, but Vandervest handles it. Once in the calm bay around the island, they are set upon by a pirate ship and the shark, and Naielle manages to eldritch blast the captain of the vessel from range.
Emerald Festival
After Marius and Talia take on pirate disguises, the group sails into the cave aboard the pirate's boat. They are recognised as they reach the dock, but are able to quickly dispatch with the sole pirate present and knock out the Kappa. They are also able to clear out the kappa from the metal shark, succeeding in the primary objective of the trip. However, the pirate leaders remain at large, and the group can't leave until they (and their ballista) are dealt with.   They head into the slowly degrading ruins of an ancient temple and, after setting fire to one ballista, find the three leaders of the Emerald Festival within a holy space. A fight swiftly ensues, which after a time results in significant injury being dealt to Captain Pae Jun-ho. Rather than die, however, he does some aberrant blood magic to absorb the power/life force/??? of Ping Young-Jin, and rises as a twisted powerful man dual-wielding his glaive and the latter's explosive hammer. The battle resumes, with Vandervest being knocked unconscious in the brawl. Naielle sees to it that he is revived, and Talia is able to shoot Pae's hammer and explode it, killing him.   The final captain, the bard Sin Son-Su surrenders. Pae's body is burnt (because EW, NO), but Naielle grants Sin the small mercy of burying Ping's body in accordance with their culture (and possibly the bodies of the other slain pirates as well, just not Pae specifically). The pirates surrender under Sin's direction, and their base is looted in preparation for returning to the rest of the JSE Fleet. During this looting, a bowl with an attached water elemental is obtained. Pretty rad.   Upon return to Kotahui, Vandervest entrusts Naielle with command over the claimed pirate junk, which Naielle hesitantly accepts. She renames it the Xistina, and appoints Tarik Demishruk as her first officer. In her first officers meeting, she fails to prevent Sin from being surrendered to the imperials in Kotahui, whereupon he is executed. Plans are made for their departure, and they make for the city of Ningbo, a month's sail from Siput.

Interlude

While out at sea, an undersea temple is discovered, and a detour is made to investigate. Fish people have taken up residence, and they ambush the party on arrival. After killing most of the residents, and fighting some horrific rats, three gems are uncovered that unlock a strange door in the main room. Behind that door was a bubbling pool with a trident sticking out of it. With Naielle helping to cool the water, Marius waded in to retrieve it, revealing a flask with a trapped fire elemental inside. After some discussion, they pledge to release him once they reach the surface, though not before he and Vanera have ~a time~.   A bonfire is lit on a small island, freeing the fire elemental. He grants the party (specifically Saphielle) a scale which can summon him three times.

Module 2

On approach to Ningbo, the Xistina is intercepted by the Black Fins, one of 5 clans within the city. Once the fleet's intentions are made clear, the ship is allowed to dock, though due to its appearance it is confused by the locals to be part of a so called "Examination Fleet". Once this misunderstanding is cleared, the party explores the city a little, learning more about the Examinations and how they provide a route to the imperial capital.   While the party is out, 5 men enter the ship and demand taxes, taking 3 bottles of wine and some silverware. Naielle arrives part way through their search and allows them to exit the boat, aiming to prevent a fight from breaking out aboard her boat.   Early the next day, the party speaks with Ma My, a member of the White Lantern clan, who wants help dealing with the ghosts of an ancestral island. She pledges to sponsor members for the examination if this is done, which is considered. However, Vandervest aboard the Pendagast has made contact with the Black Fins and learnt of a more pressing matter, which takes precedence.
Heist
In short, a foreign national (presumed to be a Sylvian) arrived in Ningbo not long before the party did, being captued by the Bingja, who had also taken the Xistina's wine. In return for breaking this individual out of Bingja holding and bringing them to the Black Fins, they would help in some way with the trade objective. To that end, the party will split into two teams and try to break into a Bingja manor house, while the crews of the Xistina and Pendagast throw a party to distract the Bingja and entertain the city, as was loosely promised to the dock master and students on the first day. This is complicated by the decision of Saphielle to trade her luck for a fire sword, and of Sidika to trade her prosthetic arm for an orb of history.   The first team is successful in acquiring the wine with the help of the young daughter of the house's owner, and the second team rescues the captive. Rather than a Sylvian national, however, they are revealed to be an injured mindflayer, and a fight ensues in the courtyard. After dispatching the mindflayer, the party return the daughter to her room and heal her as best they can before fleeing. This information is relayed to the Black Fins, who believe this may be related to the long absence of the city's master.   The party splits in two once again to curry favour with other factions in the city, with Naielle joining the party working with the White Lanterns.
Ghost Island
Naielle and crew sail for the White Lantern's ancestral island, and make contact with the ghost of Ti'an, who asks to be reunited with her wife and interred in their tomb, as had been planned before the island fell to the Imperials. Her remains are recovered from the tumultuous waters, and the party continues.   Another old man asks for us to free his sons from their task, which is to defend the island from intruders. It's agreed that the party will fight them sincerely later, but for now they help us locate the body of Zan, Ti'an's wife. With some skillful tune playing from Odart, her spirit is calmed enough that her remains are recovered, and the two women are interred.   A cursed forest also must be dealt with, as something strange has taken root and driven the spirits mad. This is found to be a dog immitting glowing mist, with some skeleton archers in its thrall. Naielle is able to defeat the dog, and with the archers dispatch, the party returns to the courtyard to rest before fighting the brothers.   This accomplished, though not without plenty of bloodshed from the party, we head for the keep. Marius and Tilly are able to convince the Ancestor, leader of the undead Lanterns, to support the JSE and reconnect with their living descendants, and the group agree to escort a member of them, Shen, to the White Lanterns on return to Ningbo.
Mindflayer Ship
On their return, the other half of the crew informs them of their actions, notably the discovery of a Mindflayer Ship half-buried in a forest outside of the city and the capture of a Fajia man who was working to free it. Though a deal with struck with the Bingja to investigate the ship together using a crystal they had obtained from the mindflayer they had held captive, it is decided that the Pendagast crew will head to the ship first to secure it. This is partly possible due to the arrival of the Rthnatheá from the main fleet, with whom's help the party are able to open the vessel.   Efforts to clear the ship are complicated by its inhabitants, namely three deep dwarves who lure the party into a trap to attack some of them, though this fails. When the party makes it to the bridge, efforts by Sidika and the Rthnatheá to activate to commanders chair results in the tripping of the defence systems, summoning a mind witness. After a tense fight, Saphielle dispatches the beast, and the rest of the ship is safely explored, including the discovery of 10 people who had been kidnapped from the nearby town for use as food.   Marius and Talia escort the survivors back home, and Vandervest and Vanera return to the Pendagast to meet with the Bingja. Upon their return, they come to the belief that the party had reneged on the agreement, as Vandervest had not informed them that the ship had already been (superficially?) explored. After tense back and forth, the crew depart to avoid a fight, leaving the mindflayer ship in the Bingja's custody.
Ship Business
Some members of the party remain in the nearby town to rest, and Naielle returns to the Pendagast with Talia and Saphielle to deal with the Fajia captive, Yuan Ru. Said man's cousins arrive to discuss his potential release, but are convinced to allow him to remain in the JSE's custody for the time being so he can freed from the control of the mindflayers. This is complicated somewhat by the Rthnatheá's brief attempt to kill Yuan Ru, owing to it's complex history with mindflayers.   Upon the captain's return, the crew again agrees to split - some will attempt to gain information from the administration, others to gather doctors and medical knowledge in preparation for helping Yuan Ru, and the final group to return to the Mindflayer Ship to ask for a favour. Naielle, Marius, Vanera, and Sidika form this latter group.
Astral Sea
Though the Bingja are unimpressed with the party's return, owing to their last encounter, they agree to give us a chance to be useful by having Sidika work on making the ship operational and getting it unburied by powering its engines. Naielle is called upon to double check the coordinates used, and though she expresses doubt that they are 100% correct, the order is given by the Bingja commander Wan Ren to launch. When this is done so, the ship translocates to the Astral Sea, realm of Naielle's patron, and she glows with constellations and stars.   When Wan Ren threatens Sidika due to the apparent error, Naielle steps in between the two and attempts to take responsibility. He storms off, and the party attempt to orient themselves in this strange realm and figure out how to return. Unfortunately, the ship was damaged in the jump, and is low on power. Due to being biological in nature, it requires healing magic to repair - Sidika's is only somewhat effective, while Naielle's seems to be supercharged. Marius, on the other hand, has no access to his divine patron.   Despite this, when Sidika informs the party that someone will need to climb around the outside of the ship to heal the engine and Naielle resigns herself to the task, Marius volunteers, and demonstrates his capacity for magic when the group ask for proof. He successfully climbs around the side and mostly fixes the damage, and returns safely. But the engine remains without power, and the ship is fueled by biological matter.   After a test with hand-dipping from Sidika and bloodletting from Marius, Vanera decides it would be more efficient to fish for something. She "accidentally" fishes up a stellar serpent, which attacks the vessel and her especially. The crew rush to aid, and Naielle, supercharged by the proximity of her patron, fucking annihilates the serpent with a Guiding Bolt. When the party begin carving up the serpent to feed to the vessel, Wan Ren demands to know what we are doing. When he once again threatens Sidika, this time due to her caginess, Naielle once again steps between them and tells him to fuuuuck off, though far more politely than that would imply. Once he is told of how the ship is powered, he orders his men to help with carving up the serpent.   The ship now restored to enough power for a translocation, Naielle takes a second look at the coordinates, and is able to correct the value which sent them to a different plane. This time, the ship teleports back to the forest, though a ways from its initial position and a little in the air, and crashes down into the trees.   As the party gathers their bearings and prepares to negotiate further with Wan Ren, Naielle notes that Marius appears to have been injured during the jump. When she questions him, he tells her that he simply fell during the jump, but Naielle doesn't believe him - while she does not know the nature of his injury, she knows it involves her in some way.
Brain Surgery
On returning to the Pendagast, preparations swiftly begin for an effort to remove the mindflayer parasite from Yuan Ru, which goes very successfully! The group are even able to get doctors from several different clans to work together during the operation.   The group who went to investigate the administration return, revealing that the leader of the administration is not under mind control, but is being manipulated. Further, the examination fleet has been compromised in some way, and is on its way to the city.   It is decided the Pendagast will try to talk down the Bingja from a possible takeover of the city. An envoy, consisting of Vanera, Talia, Saphielle, and Naielle, will go to speak with them.

Shit Hits The Fan

When the group arrive, they speak to Wan Lang, the leader of the Bingja, and try to explain the things we have learnt. However, he calls for the arrest of the party on a number of charges, the most noteworthy of which being 'attacking and delaying the Examination Fleet' - the only charge for which there is no basis. Everyone is disarmed and taken to the holding cells.   While in holding, Yan Xia comes to visit. She apologises for being unable to convince Wan Lang that the charges were spurious, as she was overruled by the imperial officer. After Vanera swears on her honour that we had no part in delaying the fleet, she promises to try her best.   In preparation for trying to escape, Naielle entreats Alcor for the knowledge of where everyones belongings are - they are being held in the Bingja war room, with nothing yet missing, though Saphielle's sword has been tampered with.   As the night begins, a commotion occurs upstairs, and Ren Yating enters the cells. He helps the party exit, but warns them against trying to retrieve their goods, instead saying he will attempt to retrieve some of them later. However, as they exit through a storage room, Naielle is spotted by a member of the administration - a strange masked figure in blue robes. As the party climb out the window, this figure approaches and attacks Yating - Vanera drags him away while Marius, who had just arrived with the rescue team, covers the retreat. In the process, he de-masks the figure, revealing a shiny purple face with elements of abberant and necrotic.   Once out, Marius and Vanera re-enter the manor using the teleporation magic of Thyadius, and are able to recover everyone's belongings. Everyone flees to the Blue Lotus Cafe owned by the White lanterns, while an illusionist causes a distraction.
Undead Armies
Come morning, the crew are offered breakfast by Shen, the proprietor of the cafe, and she makes an offer. If they assist in awakening an army of White Lantern loyalist buried in the city's old catacombs, she can arrange for three people to accompany the White Lantern leaders to the dinner being held in the administration tonight. Despite some reservations, they agree, and head into the catacombs with one of the ancestral warriors, Zan.   However, the catacombs have been defaced by derro, and a number of corpses are being pumped full of a strange purple liquid. Talia identifies the bodies as being turned into the same figures as the masked admins. Zan finds the matter perverse, and kills the derro who was overseeing the matter. After clearing the way deeper into the catacombs, where some bodies still remain, Zan casts an awakening ritual to summon the warriors.   In the back of the room, Naielle identifies a fissure that leads directly to the Underdark - not physically, but magically. While she knows of experimental methods to close such portals, she cannot acquire the materials on such short notices, and instructs the warriors to keep an eye on it, in anticipation that she will be able to return to try and fix it.   On returning to the cafe, Shen informs the group she was able to scry the location of Vandervest's clerk, Liesbeth - she is being held in a house in Fajia territory. While some of the group head for the Mohzi as part of the dinner infiltration plan, most of the others head off to rescue her - Naielle remains in the cafe to prepare for the dinner, just in case the group does not return in time.   Luckily, they return in the nick of time with a badly injured Liesbeth, who Naielle heals as best she can. According to the briefly-conscious clerk, the mindflayer who had held her captive extracted a lot of information from her, but did not learn one key thing - she whispers this to the captain, who then states it is not important to the mission at hand. Tilly, the feline illusionist, casts Detect Thoughts on the captain to learn this information, nearly provoking a fight in the cafe. When resolved, it is determined who will accompany the White Lanterns to the dinner - Naielle, Vanera, and Sidika.

Family, Friends, and So On

Immediate Family
  • Grandmother: Saroel Odelia née Tavarfall - 495 Years Old
A cunning and clever old woman, Saroel was the brains behind the idea to transfer the assets of the Marquisate of Odelia into an educational institute during the rise of Nathaneel Bonaparte. She served as Odelia University's first President, and even in her old age has immense sway over its dealings and her family. Believing Naielle's reckless actions put the family at risk, Saroel has denounced her entirely.
  • Mother: Oriphira Odelia - 321 Years Old
Though she was not expected to inherit her mother's position at the University, Oriphira has risen to the occasion with great gusto. Her shrewdness has seen OU grow over the decades, and she applies the same piercing judgements to her children. Like her mother, her disappointment with Naielle's behaviour was immeasurable, and she has rescinded all her previous pride in her accomplishments.
  • Father: Laucian Amamion - 333 Years Old
A mild-mannered commoner with a zeal for learning, Laucian only received his university education and position thanks to knowing Oriphira personally. He has made the most of this luck, often being seen giving impromptu lessons on Sylvian history or other topics to random students and those who can't afford OU's fees. He was particularly proud that Naielle had an interest in history like him, until she was exiled.
  • Older Sister: Aedelie Odelia-Gaumont - 201 Years Old
With a sterness inherited from her mother and from her military service, Aedelie is the gruffest of the Odelias. Since adulthood she has served in the Imperial Army, currently holding the rank of Major. Despite her reputation for curt rudeness, she has immense love for her siblings and her husband Emile. She doted on Naielle regularly and took her betrayal very personally.
  • Older Twin Brother: Quenaris Odelia - 122 Years Old
Born 30 minutes older and much bigger, Quenaris is the mischievous trickster to Naielle's straight-laced academic. The two were inseparable during their adolescence, and even as their careers wildly diverged they made an effort to remain close. On Aedelie's suggestion, Quenaris had just enlisted into the Imperial Army when Naielle was exiled, and he subsequently threw himself into his work to avoid thinking about her.
  • Younger Sister: Mariela Odelia - 110 Years Old
Scatterbrained and patriotic, Mariela is often described as the strange Odelia sibling. She had little interest in the education offered by the University, and instead joining the Imperial Army early on to train as one of its prized feywalkers. Contrary to expectation, she has excelled in and focussed on her training to such an extent she hardly noticed Naielle's departure, and she regards her older sister as a traitorous fool.
  • Younger Brother: Yivien Odelia - 104 Years Old
A clever and proud young man, Yivien is the other academic of the Odelia siblings. However, due to his focus on architecture and construction, he usually did not receive the attention from his parents that Naielle did. As a result, he's the only one pleased that she has left, as he is now the smartest child and has his buildings proudly shown off by the family.
Extended Family
  • Oriphira's Cousin: Eloisa de Walle née Odelia - 315 Years Old
Carefree and oblivious to a fault, Eloisa has little in life to worry about other than her artistic practice, especially after she left the chaos of the revolutionary Sylvian Kingdom. She sells various bizarre clothes and paintings to locals and is known for her joyous attitude. She took Naielle in after her exile, in exchange for her help in some of her more outlandish designs.
  • Eloisa's Son: Vincent Gerner née de Walle - 166 Years Old (Died in 229)
Inheriting only the business-minded elements of his mother's artistry, Vincent became a merchant and travelled the seas for many years. He was rather successful, and known to be a harsh boss who insisted every minor thing be accounted for and expensed. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire due to a recurring illness, which eventually left him bedridden in the care of his mother and daughter. Before his passing, he wrote Naielle a letter of recommendation for the Welvarend Navigator's Guild.
  • Vincent's Daughter: Josefien Holicia née Gerner - 127 Years Old
A stubborn and witty young woman, Josefien inherited her father's merchant business upon his death. Prior to this she had worked as an assistant aboard his vessels, occasionally doing trade deals on his behalf. She is not as harsh as her father was, but is also not as adventurous as he could be, preferring to stick to "safe" trades with repeat customers rather than expanding into new areas.
Important People
  • Fiancée: Xistina Rosseau - 135 Years Old
Cheeky and with a great passion for the finer things in life, Xistina is a variously-successful merchant. She has known Naielle since they were young and attending Odelia University together, and was her childhood sweetheart. She bought her boats using her inheritance from her father, but has not always turned a profit on her trades. As such, she sought a Letter of Marque without Naielle's knowledge and has been a privateer for many years. Though she was well within her rights to do so, she did not annul her engagement after Naielle was exiled.
  • Former Professor: Jean-Theren Wysaphine - 468 Years Old
A cowardly and cantankerous old elf, Jean-Theren was a teacher at Odelia University for over two centuries. He primarily taught history and supervised many of the in-depth research projects of his top-level students, such as Naielle. It was through him that she acquired her final assignment, and he was the one to report her to the authorities over her warlock-gained knowledge. He retired shortly after he was attacked, and has lived quietly in his home.
  • Retainer: Tarik Demishruk - 54 Years Old
A jolly and calming presence, Tarik is one of the helmsmen on Xistina. In his youth he was a member of a <Turkish> pirate crew operating between Yerovera and the Dragon Continent, until a close brush with death led to a change of heart. He left his crew and became a monk, and has spent his time using his new skills and previous sailing experience for good, rather than petty gain.
  • Retainer: Darcy Goddard - 33 Years Old
Silently and patiently observing from above, Darcy is one of the lookouts aboard Xistina. Hailing from the Isle of Noble Beasts, the owl woman has spent much of her life aboard boats in various roles, with the last decade spent as a sailor for hire in Welvarend. Though her wings were injured in a mutiny on an Arcadian trading vessel, she is still able to fly, and remains as nimble and keen-eyed as ever.
  • Associate: Nang Jung-ho
A pirate from the Emerald Festival, Jung-ho fought the party in Kupang alongside Ryon Jong-Yul. After nearly being killed by Naielle, he was spared in exchange for information about the Emerald Festival's whereabouts. In order to save him from imperial execution, he was brought aboard Pendagast as an <X>.
JSE Crew Members
These are barely notes, because describing my fellow players and their characters is hard, but there are some small bits that are useful, maybe!
  • Commanding Officer: Captain Morgaan Vandervest
The spidery captain of the Pendagast and its sister vessels, Vandervest is a strict and uncompromising man. Naielle does not contradict his orders, and only rarely disagrees with his plans, though this is likely less due to their quality and more due to her cowardice.
  • Commander Officer: Lieutenant Vanera Borovkov
An orc barbarian hailing from the frigid north, Vanera is an intimidating but joyous figure. Though she and Naielle are technically equivalent in rank, her position as second-in-command aboard the Pendagast results in Naielle regularly deferring to her.
  • Peer: Shipmaster Sidika Yavuz
A dwarf artificer from <Turkey>, Sidika is the shipmaster for the metal shark. Naielle and she hold the same rank, though Sidika's technical prowess and the vessel in her command are far more impressive.
  • Peer: Doctor Talia Austringer
The ragingly gay human artificer, Talia serves as the doctor for the lead ships for the JSE. Though Talia holds a lesser rank, Naielle holds her in great respect, going so far as to put herself in danger for her.
  • Peer: Sir Marius Aubert
Composed and ever aware of trade opportunities, Marius is the chief priest for the Pendagast and the Xistina. Owing to his ample experience in trade, Naielle sees him as an authority in many of their diplomatic actions, even though she does not worship the same god as he. For various reasons, Naielle feels very indebted to him.
  • Peer: Saphielle Neri
A sneaky tiefling rogue, Saphielle is the quartermaster for the Pendagast. Naielle sees her as somewhat reckless, but her prodigious skill in stealth cannot help but be impressive.
  • Peer: The Rthnatheá
A psionic warforged with foggy memories and a traumatic past, the Rthnatheá is the newest member of the Pendagast crew. Naielle has not known it long, but she respects the construct's formidable powers and unique skillset, and fears its temper.

Additional Facts

Naielle's navigational specialty is the open ocean, or anywhere where decisions can be made measuredly and based on the stars.   In exchange for a map, she is honour-bound to oppose abominations. This is the only aspect of her pact she is concretely aware of.   Her maternal family were previously the Marquises of Odelia, with either her grandfather or mother being the final holder of the title. Though this title has been inactive since the rise of the Sylvian Empire, Naielle still bears a Scroll of Pedigree which marks her as being a descendant of nobility.   Naielle's motivation for accepting her role on the boat is that she wants to do something good that she could not have done if she had remained a Sylvian historian. This stems from a deep fear that she ruined her life with her pact, and so must do good with its power to justify what it has caused.   She takes betrayal and violation of her trust way too seriously for her own good, hence her attacking of Professor Wysaphine for having reported her to the imperial government, and her rash reaction to "Lee's" attack against Talia when they "rescued" him.

Author's Notes

This article is about 95% only for myself and my DM for the campaign Naielle is played in, so a lot of information is not explained because the two of us already know it. Nevertheless, if you enjoyed reading about her, I'm delighted! ^v^
