Manual backups

Long time ago, in the beginning of the digital era people have suffered, because their photographs, songs, videos and diaries were only available in a material form. And it was a difficult task to store many, since most did not have enough space in their homes. But then there began the digital age and people were finally able to store everything, though manually. But over time people got lazy, and many of them, with so much space given, have forgotten what was inside. And over time, people have forgotten about the hard drives and some of them, when damaged, destroyed the immense ocean of data, they stored. And people felt they lost a lot, but they could not say what they did lose, because the number of data was too large.
— A short story of the Mankind

Back in the old days

Back in the old days people used mainly physical hard drives, like flash drives. Over time, most of the data started to be stored on cloud sources, distributed in multitude copies, almost impossible to delete. Starting that day, the tradtion of manual backups slowly faded into non-existance, until only the most dedicated followers remained. (let's be honest, it was mostly Linux users)

Manual backups today

Today the ritual is considered old but still thrives in some circles, profoundly in the Carpe diem cult, where it is thought the only acceptable form of backing up information. Sometimes manual backups are also a ust for people storing small packets of information they wouldn't want to share over the cloud. These would be anything from several terabytes to couple of hundreds of terabytes.
