Wilscan Runestone

Purpose / Function

The Cloch, or Wilscan Runestone as it's called by the Seaxe, are great carved stones created by the Wilscan people. They are used to commune with spirits of the land to learn what is happening, to convey messages between Cloches, and to give warnings about the future of a given area.   Not all Cloch are capable of performing the same functions. All of them have a nature spirit, or some other form of spirit, housed within. Those spirits very greatly in their proclivities. The most common ability a Cloch possess is to inform the user what the opinion of the land is. Are the beings and the magic within an area at peace, or are they roused due to something.   More often than not the truly massive Cloch are able to see into the future in some way. Often they will give warnings to passing Wilscan people, especially to those who remember and practice the old ways such as the Wilscan druids. Small Cloch are prone to being messengers, somehow traveling through the earth at great speeds to arrive at different locations. It is rarely known what kind of messenger any given Cloch may be, some can only travel to specific location, others will only travel on certain days of the year. Often the large Cloch will have a following of smaller ones who will act as messengers for the larger Cloch.   Wilscan druids will often receive warnings and guidance from the ancient, and truly massive, Cloch. Telling them where they are needed, and what areas they must avoid. Truly remarkable Wilscan will at times have a Cloch adopt them, they will be followed, and may be able to ask multiple services from their Cloch. Most of these Cloch have gone to 'sleep' now, most often found in burial chambers and grave sites of ancient Wilscan practitioners of the old ways.

Architecture

The Cloch come in untold variations. What is true among all of them is that they are made of a single solid stone. Some are massive stones, others may be the size of a pebble. They may have runes or script carved on them, or scrollwork, some are adorned with pictograms.   Most Cloch have a unique ability to sink into the ground when not needed, thus protecting them from wear and tear of the elements and also from damage from those who are malicious or ignorant.
