Common Vehicles of Transportation

Most people of Ethilia use only horses equipped with saddebags for their travels. They rarely have the safety or wealth to require a cart or buggy to be pulled by the horse. Outside of the ancient roads created by the old empire's troops most of the tracks and dirt lanes that the Estmerians create are poorly suited to hauling goods by cart. The capital city of Ethilia was the only place that widely used horse drawn carts as the means for transportation, but with its fall they serve a much smaller purpose now.   In several of the cities the most common transportation means is by river. Up river farms will load barges with grain and timber and bring them down the river to the city center. From there they will be emptied and whatever equipment is needed by the farm purchased and loaded onto the barge. Horses are then used to pull the barges back up the river slowly. This system breaks down in the rainy seasons as the horse teams are usually incapable of hauling the barges back up to the rivers against the raging tides of rain water.   The Seaxe tend to use boats of various sizes to travel goods. Preferring to live along the coast or only a little way up wide rivers. This does have the side effect of often preventing travel during the stormy season as traveling by boat become nearly impossible. This is also the system favored by the archipelago of islands on the edge of Ethilia.   There are rumors that the Wilscan people have tamed a species of giant birds to serve as their pack animals in the depth of the wilderness. While nobody has seen this in use, the rumors persist anyhow. If they do use these strange creatures to travel it is only out of areas of extremely wilderness, avoiding all population centers.
