Arcane Saturation

Arcane saturation is an issue faced by many in the elderly population within city limits.

Causes

Believed to be caused by having too many trace enchantments, spells, healings, or magical blessings existing within the system of the person. Usually caused over a lifetime of exposure to constant magic without having the arcane skill to dissipate the residual magic.

Symptoms

At first the symptoms are a decrease in the effect of magic upon the individual. This can be both a positive and a negative for those experiencing it. For the average person the effect is often an increase in disease and common illnesses and the loss of ability to combat them through religious practices and arcane methods.   For individuals of the martial persuasion this can be beneficial as magical enchantments that specifically target individuals will have a decreased effect upon them, lasting for shorter durations, and being in general less damaging to them.

Treatment

No proven treatment exists currently. There are beliefs that select training can result in a reversal of the condition however this is unsubstantiated. Exposure to certain anti-magic materials may be another solution, but the cost of finding and utilizing such materials is impossible for most to achieve.

Sequela

The eventual end effect of the condition is the inability for magic to have any predictable effect upon the individual. This usually results in the permanent death of the person as holy and arcane magic looses its ability to revive the person, should they be able to be given access to such magic.

Prevention

Currently the only known prevention to this condition is to only receive arcane treatments from only skilled practitioners. Something that can be easily achieved by the wealthy portion of the populace. For the poorer portions, and those mundane men at arms who cannot access quality magical practitioners will be susceptible to the condition.

History

First noted by the old imperial record keepings nearly 400 years ago. There are only a few very rare cases of this being known to have happened prior to that time period.
