Qualifications

To be recognised as a Witch by the Witch's Coven you have to have passed the tests and undergone the The Hatting. Most Witches train with the Coven beforehand, but some Witches learn their abilities on their own or through guidance from somone else who understands magic. However, if they are to be recognised as part of the profession of Witches, then they must still pass the tests.

Career Progression

How a Witch progressess after she has been awarded her hat and welcomed into the ranks of Witches is entirely up to them. It is a sort of learn on the job kind of affair. While the basics can be taught, the rest needs to come through experience. Each Witch has their own speciality or type of magic that they are good at, and it usually common practise to use those skills to help the people and creatures of the valley, and to look after the land of course.

Payment & Reimbursement

Witches receive no salary from the coven, though they are given a small stipend when they first venture forth on their own. A witch is expected to use their own talents and abilities to make a living, such as selling potions and cures or offering advice in the form of fortune tellings. In the course of their duties Witches are supposd to lend aid to those in trouble where possible, and this often results in small gifts such as baked goods or offers of services like fence building or gardening etc.

Perception

Purpose

A Witch's ultimate goal is to help the people and creatures of the valley and to protect from otherwordly forces. Once they have gained the respect of their neighbours they are often seen as advisors and are looked to in times of trouble as much as their own rulers or elders. They often act as negotiators during disagreements as well, as they are known for being impartial.

Social Status

Witches are generally afforded respect and it is considered good fortune to have a Witch in your town or village. Witches are also known to be inventive in the ways they punish those who have angered them, so some people also tread carefully around them. However, if a Witch proves to be incompetent or is abusing their position then they will quickly lose favour with the people. In those cases it is usually requested by the local ruler that the Coven do something about them.
