Sirenpass Keep

The keep has stood for nearly eight hundred years and was built to protect the pass from both beast and man. Today it still serves that purpose but now also serves as the seat of governance for the city of Whistletop that has sprung up around in the last few hundred years.
It sits near the centre of the city and its tower can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. The keep itself is surrounded by a huge stone wall and battlements, and has two large steel portcullis gates at the North and South sides. Inside the walls is the main keep, as well as several auxilliary buildings, barracks, a large stables and courtyard, and a large open space which is used for assembling the troops and as a training grounds.
The guilds of the city all have their headquarters within the walls of the keep, and take up most of the auxilliary buildings. The commander who is in charge of the running of the keep and the defense of the city also has his apartments and offices within the main keep. Here can also be found the offices of some of the City's officials and the heads of the various military units in the city.
Many people who visit the city of Whistletop come to see the keep as it one of the architechtural masterpieces of the city. It also houses an impressive collection of weapons and armour, historical artefacts and quite a large library which has some rare tomes among its shelves. Visitors are only allowed in certain areas of the Keep and there are guided tours which can be taken every hour during opening times. During the year the keep also hosts several events: there is the great winter feast, the annual summer tourney, and the antique crafts fair in the spring.
