Gifts of Chaos

Name a thing like that and nobody will touch it with a ten-foot pole. Regardless of where it actually came from.

You all know of the Forbidden Forest's reputation. A dark and mysterious place, full of sorcery and unknown creatures. What kind of things could possibly come from such a place? Well, turns out a lot of different ones.
Most of them look just like normal objects, and feel that way as well. They tend to have unusual properties though, ones that are often considered to be impossible for things made by a man's hand. Some even give their bearers, or wearers depending on the item, supernatural abilities. And all of them tend to quickly wither away and crumble to bits when exposed to Gracious Wind, leading to the rather negative reputation and strict ostracism by the church.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Now, the truly fascinating question is what exactly makes these items special. Is it the material they are made from? Is it the arts and sorcery of some unknown people living in the Forbidden Forest? Is it the hand of actual Chaos, if such a being truly exists? Nobody knows and nobody can really discuss it much, but plenty of people would risk everything to learn the answer.
And then there is the fact that these items do not last long in our lands. That does not seem to be a thing in the Forbidden Forest, or even on its outskirts. On the other hand, I heard rumours of people preserving items for years and decades by keeping them well stored. Is it indeed magic that sustains the Gifts of Chaos, taken away by the Gracious Wind? Or is our climate simply too different from where these items came from?

History

Perhaps things would have went much differently were these items first found by different people. But no, it had to be a bunch of religious fanatics and missionaries that got lost in the Forbidden Forest and found some things they should have just left lying around. Instead they took those things back, showed them to their orders and got the whole clergy riled up about it. Enough to warrant a full-out condemnation of anyone who would dare to use one of Chaos's Gifts, even though that law is not followed as strictly nowadays as it used to. I did not tell you that though.

Rarity

It is actually not even that rare for these items to be found in the Forbidden Forest. Well, for items that are considered to be such - there is not a strict definition after all. Anything that does not fit out idea of normal gets labelled as Gifts of Chaos, and often left in the Forbidden Forest or outright destroyed.
