Faerie
They say that faerie is beings we cannot hope to comprehend... But that just sounds like the description of half my idiot neighbours. The tales of faerie existed in the Old World for as long as people have lived here. Strange creatures, they look like us but are not. In most stories they are distinctly evil characters, plotting against humans and using them for their own goals. Few doubt the faerie's existence, for there are too many stories of people meeting one of their kind. And since faerie use all sorts of sorcery, how could one even question their evil nature? Of course, some people question it nonetheless. They argue that faerie are just a different species like us humans are, or maybe even a group of species. The fact that they come from the Forbidden Forest does not make them evil per say, but could be reason enough people branded them as such. Then again, few would dare to voice such theories with the Church of Three Prophets officially branding all sorcery as work of Chaos.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Most faerie could be mistaken for humans from a distance. In fact, many of them do get mistaken until it is too late - that is the plot of half the faerie stories. You see a human figure shaped in clothes sitting next to a fire and do not doubt it for a second. It is only up close that you might notice something off: weirdly pointy ears, wolf-like teeth, unnaturally slender or well-built bodies.
The faerie in some stories look more like demons would, with horns and wings and such. Pretty scare stories too, usually leading to death and destruction in the region. But do such creatures even deserve to be called faerie? Should we not just call them demons instead, as two types are so distinctly different? So many questions, and yet not enough answers. I know some scholars in the imperial capital who would pay a fortune for a body intact.
Where They Live
Most stories have faerie come from the Forbidden Forest, which is one of the main reasons for its name. Nobody wants to be lost in the woods with creatures of strange mind and unknown goals. For the Church, the fact that faerie live outside of the God's blessed lands are reason enough why they are creatures of Chaos, fearing the Gracious Wind and thus not daring to step into the human realms. But step they do, and quite often it seems. More so as of late, if stories are to be believed. There are also stories of faerie on the Wellimbrook Archipelago, albeit they have their own distinct flavour. Perhaps, the faerie that Eirish speak of are different from the ones that Kosaris and Hummish tend to meet? Alas, we may never know for sure.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
