Tribes of Shadycreen Run
Favour will have briefed anyone making the journey to Shadycreek Run on the Tribes and other factions.
Shadycreek Run is famously comprised of a collection of rival criminal families known as the Tribes ran Shadycreek Run for nearly a century before losing much of their dominance to violent infighting and internal power struggles. Comprised of the Mardoon family, the Uttolot family, the Trebain family, and the Jagentoth family, the Tribes still control most of the business that transpires in the city as they work against each other in secret.
While each family center is usually comprised of relatives by blood or marriage, their employees are also considered to be “within the family,” so long as they remain loyal. The Tribes operate without a unified symbol or banner, and their interests lie in fencing stolen goods, importing and providing vice, and controlling the populace through confusion, intimidation, and fear.
They have no banners or obvious heraldry, so identifying members of the family is difficult - Favour's advice is to take care if considering job offers from locals.
The Uttolot family are the ones you will be guaranteed to cross paths with, if only briefly, as they control the gates through the Quannah Breach and require a toll from any passing through. They also have close ties with the Grudge Gang, a group of thugs-for-hire that operate in Shadycreek. The Uttolots regularly clash with the Greytrader Union, a collective of citizens who want to improve life for the people of Shadycreek Run.
They call it the Run for a reason. Shadycreek is volatile; you’ve probably heard it’s a hive of criminals and savages, and any stories you’ve heard probably aren’t too far from the truth. It’s a harsh place, not just because of its residents, but the forest around it - beasts will frequently pick off easy prey on the outskirts.
Not that you're easy prey I guess, but you should probably stick together anyway. The reputation of the Amberglow Caravan only goes so far, and the locals will probably care less than the beasts in the woods.
You should be aware of the Tribes, and the local gangs. The Tribe families are the Mardoons, the Uttolots, the Trebains, and the Jagentoth family. They control most of the business that transpires in the city, and they often work against each other. I’d suggest avoiding any business that takes one particular side over another to make it easy on yourselves. If you get in trouble with a Tribe, and it could bring the Caravan into disrepute, then you’re on your own.
Outside of the families, there’s the Greytrader Union - they’re some citizen-run group, got some ideas of trying to make Shadycreek safer. Then the Grudge Gang, which is the closest thing to “enforcement” as you’re going to get. Their Taskers mainly answer violence with violence, and they don’t really stop to ask too many questions - if there’s brawls, they’re going to weigh in and stop them with force regardless of who started it.
