Dominion of Wealth

Silver in the Soil

Riches are not just mined from the rocks beneath our feet. Silver's worth is not just in its rarity. Together, working as one, we can provide a luxurious life for all.
— Excerpt from the innaugural speech of Chairman Galick
Though at first glance the islands of the Dominion of Wealth appear to be similar to the Barren Dominion, however, under the rocky surface of these islands lies a bounty of minerals and ores. All of the islands in the Blue have some amount of metals contained within the rocks and soil, but the islands of the Dominion of Wealth have shiploads and shiploads full. Mining and shipping these resources back to Ilysium spurred first the creation of the Trade Union, to manage the flow of wealth, and eventually the Trade Union Revolutionary War.

Geographic Features

Islands in the Dominion of Wealth almost always have very rocky, almost gravel-like soil, which form cliffs and crags on the edges of the island. The mountains that take up the majority of the space on each island are usually very steep, with sheer cliff faces that are impossible to scale without the proper equipment. Most of those mountains also break the sparse cloud layer each island has, giving views far into the cosmos around the island. From the top of the highest peak in Haven, for example, you can just about see Winlem in the distance.

Flora and Fauna

The native plants of the Dominion of wealth are mostly sparse shrubs and grasses, all inedible and ugly. However they do hold the rocky soil in place and survive on very little water. Some islands used to have forests that would thrive in the thin air at the peaks of mountains. Those pine trees were incredibly efficient at absorbing and holding onto water, mostly drawing it from the clouds that would clump around the mountains, and would use that to grow incredibly tall. Most of those forests have long-since been demolished, replaced - if replaced at all - by species of trees that are easier to farm. Many species of Auiantum have adapted to live in the towns that have replaced the forests, trading more vibrant colors to ones that blend with the greys of steel and soot.

Natural Resources

Each island in the Dominion of Wealth has a different makeup of the various minerals found in the soil, but there is almost always large quantities of the various iron ores, bauxite (which is refined into aluminum), and copper. Over half of the islands have large deposits of argentite (which is refined into silver), and under a quarter of them have smaller deposits of gold. Unlike islands in the Barren Dominion, there is virtually no risk that any island would be completely mined of these resources, and many of the mines have been fruitful for generations.

Notable Locations

Atlipopan

The backbone of Imperial Industry, Atlipopan is the largest mining colony in the Empire. The metals, largely iron and cobalt ores, are shipped to the nearby Spoletium, which has mines of its own, to be refined and purified before being sent to various factories around the Empire.
Population: 1,699

Campe

Though Campe's mines are not as lucrative as other islands, the island makes up for this with its very regular rainfall, which can be harvested from a lake that forms in the center of the island. Most of this water is shipped to Querk, though some is sent to Sayles to quench the thirst of the city.

Controlled by: The Trade Union

Isurium

During a long-ago war, the Empire burned the lush oasis of Isurium, which was the only island in the Dominion of Wealth that had successful farms. The blackened remains of the colony still sit untouched to this day.

Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD

Nimbifer

Nimbifer is home to a strange weather phenomenon - a storm that swirls endlessly around the island. Called the Maelstrom by the religious sect that calls Nimbifer home, it is said to be a gift from Fular, God of Chaos to keep them safe from harm.

Controlled by: The Trade Union

Nontimbe

The farthest inhabitable island from Ilysium, Nontimbe was a haven for anti-imperialist sentiment all the way up until the revolutionary war. Then, and now still, it sits fairly overlooked by most in the Blue, as otherwise has nothing much to show.
Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD

Parvkole

Parkvole is not only home to several fortresses and shipyards of clans focused on defending the border of the Trade Union, but also to the mines with the most raw silver in the Blue. It has a reputation for being somewhat of a border town, though in recent years policing clans have clamped down on those who flaunt the laws and regulations of the Trade Union.
Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD

Ponlak

One of the smaller islands in the Blue, Ponlak nevertheless rivals Boreana in the amount of rainfall it receives. Most of this water is shipped to the nearby mining towns in the Trade Union, which do not get enough rainfall to sustain themselves.
Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD

Sayles

The Capitol of the Trade Union and the second-largest city in the Blue, Sayles has slowly transformed from an island of mines and quarries to one of factories and smelteries. Its mountains still contain many valuable materials, and many people still work in those mines, but many more work in the countless factories that run day and night.
Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: The Trade Union

Spoletium

Another of the Empire's industrial centers, Spoletium focuses mainly on the refinement of ores and the smelting of various important alloys. It is one of the few towns in the Empire that has managed to maintain an industry, as many other place's factories are moved to Ilysium by the Nobles that own them.

Sutnet

An abandoned colony, which seems to bear some ancient curse laid on its soil by long-dead worshippers of the Fullblooded who were forced to suicide by the Empire. Recently, rumors spread of silver to be found in caves beneath the ancient town, but the hopeful who traveled to make their fortune instead were overtaken by some madness and slaughtered each other. The Sorcerous Academy is currently investigating, and is not letting anyone else set foot on the island.
Population: ~60
Controlled by: Contested
Owner: Contested

Tamagn

Another small town on the edge of the Blue, Tamagn's claim to fame is the amount of gold found in its mines. When it was settled, huge quartz crystals were present on its slopes, but those have long since been mined and transported elsewhere. Some smaller ones can still be found, with very high gold content, but they pale in comparison to sketches of the originals.
Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD

Trympe

Though not a currently very important location in the Trade Union, Trympe, and the various war-clans that called it home, managed to fend off several Imperial Navy fleets, which surely would have razed Sayles to the ground. They still hold this fighting heritage close to their hearts, and the town is very important to several of the Old Clans that still keep private fleets.
Population: TBD
Controlled by: The Trade Union
Owner: TBD

Vahger

If any island in the Trade Union could possibly sustain industry without crumbling under the pressure Sayles exudes, it is Vahger. Its mines are prolific, like most islands in the Dominion of Wealth, but it also has the population and the land neccesary to refine those metals and turn them into at least secondary products that can be shipped to Sayles. Of course, many suspect that it is only a matter of time before this competition is crushed by the behemoth that is Sayles.

The Shelling of Sutnet

At the end of the Glesseal War, only Sutnet had not surrendered. Instead, the town barricaded itself inside their temple with its deep stores of food. Unable, or perhaps unwilling, to repeat what had been done at Cirta, they instead shelled the temple for several days. Upon finally breaching the temple, the Navy found that every inhabitant had ritually killed themselves rather than be subject to Imperial whims.
