Saller

March 11, 619 AR | 11:26 AM   It would seem I must keep a journal of sorts because my useless assistant can’t be bothered to do anything competently. That fool wasted yet another set of perfectly good beakers thanks to his clumsiness! I swear if it wasn’t for his brilliant ideas, I would have fired him months ago. And thanks to his blunder, we have to start over. By keeping a record of past events, I can better track my results and prevent forgetting anything because my movement-challenged assistant can’t be bothered to figure out how legs work.   I can’t believe I’m reduced to taking notes. I never had to do this before! Everything ran smoothly and cleanly. I only had to write down things of substantial worth not track every single failure.   I also must refrain from writing too much because it increases the risk. My work here is not exactly favored by the narrow, so-called “moral” minds of the scientific community. There’s no shortage of fools who would love to sabotage or expose me. Moral. They only say that because they lack spine and because someone else told them how to conduct their work. Right and wrong, good and evil, justice and corruption all change hands based on one’s perspective. Far too frivolous and convoluted to base my life around.   My father wasn’t the smartest man, but his best advice to me was “the only thing that matters is whether you can live with your decision.”   That has been my mantra and I will continue to follow it until the end of my days. And I can live with losing a few test subjects. No one ever got far in life without taking risks after all.   ----   March 19, 619 AR | 4:49 PM   I lost another subject today. Damn! The results were looking so promising, too! This one was perfectly compatible with the enzyme until they weren’t that is. It may have something to do with blood type. Setbacks are par for the course but it’s still horribly frustrating when progress dangles in your face only to be ripped away.   Regardless, this latest batch has proven unhelpful. The growth rate is too fast and uncontrollable. The subjects can’t handle it. I’ll need to slow it down. I have noticed that age, weight, and gender are non-factors which is a relief. That means I don’t need to be as picky about volunteers.   I’ll be sending Assistant 61-A to get more.   ----   March 26, 619 AR | 12: 22 PM   Updates on remaining subjects:   Subject: 31251A
Gender: Male
Height: 178 cm
Weight: 79 kg
Age: 34
Status: Deceased   Notes: Subject was unable to slow growth as predicted in initial hypothesis. This led to subject unable to maintain adequate blood flow.   Subject 31252B
Gender: Female
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 64 kg
Age: 47
Status Deceased   Notes: Subject lied about drinking habits. As a result, the serum did not work as intended. Will need to be stricter during questioning so as to not have time wasted.   Subject 31253C
Gender: Male
Height: 180 cm 218 cm
Weight: 83 kg 137 kg
Status: Deceased Resuscitated   Notes: Subject’s heart has restarted despite being declared dead 2 hours ago. It is possible heart rate slowed significantly as subject entered a state of hibernation, thus giving the illusion of being dead. Will scold assistant for such an obvious error. Subject has also undergone dramatic growth far beyond initial hypothesis. Will continue to monitor. Growth accelerant will be reduced for next batch of testing.   Subject: 31257G
Gender: Male
Height: 165 cm
Weight: 78 kg
Status: Deceased   Notes: Subject suffered fatal allergic reaction upon receiving first dose. Will punish assistant for egregious oversight.   Subject 31264N
Gender: Female
Height: 183 cm 160 cm
Weight: 76 kg 59kg
Status: Stable   Notes: Subject has suffered decreased size and body mass, however, there is a substantial increase to physical strength and stamina. Eye sight has also improved. Serum works as intended but the severe decrease in size must be corrected. Will continue to monitor.   ----   April 9, 619 AR | 5:29 PM   I no longer need to keep notes, but I find the process has become firmly rooted in my routine. Now I simply can’t think straight unless I put words to paper. There are worse vices I suppose although it doesn’t make this one any less annoying.   However, I discovered that the latest batch of serum has made the subjects much more obedient. Unsure if it’s a temporary effect or if it’s permanent. Until I know for certain, I’ll increase the number of guards.   I’ll need to contact my backers and convince them to pay for a more secure facility. The strength increase of Subjects 31253C and 31264N means they cannot be reliably restrained as humans.   ----   April 14, 619 AR | 7:12 PM   Update on latest experiments   Subject: 31271A Gender: Male Height: 157 cm Weight: 76 kg Status: Deceased   Notes: Subject suffered cardiac arrest during the first administration. It seems my former assistant will never be useful.   ----   April 19, 619 AR | 6:47 PM   I’m so close now. Assistant 62-B has proven to be quite promising. She maintains all the benefits with none of the drawbacks, save for the shrinking which I still have yet to remedy. Unlike Subject 31253C who is impressive to look at but his mental state leaves much to be desired and his immense size is more of a hindrance than a boon. I’ve had to resize most of the doors.   But it is a minor concern. The perfect hybrid of human and dragon is within reach. Once I find a way to stabilize the growth acceleration, I’ll be the man who bottled evolution.   Soon.
