Ancient Timepiece (Flag)

The flag of the Commonwealth

The Ancient Timepiece is the official name of the flag of the Commonwealth of Mankind, named for the distinctive "hourglass" shape that was co-opted from a repeated symbol seen throughout the Arkon vessel at Crash Site Apollyon. The original flag - harbouring the Timepiece, incircled in grey, and placed on a black background - was adopted at the establishment of the Commonwealth of Mankind; however, within the decade after its inception, the crudely drawn Citizen's revolt flag was resdeigned into its current form, meaning the Ancient Timepiece is nearly 300 years old.

Significance

The flag (and the Timepiece symbol upon it) has become a universal symbol for human peserverance and willpower, even though its origin is with the Arkons. From some points of view, however, the Timepiece has become the symbol for the dominance of the Commonwealth within Orion - and, for others still, the flag has become a symbol of oppression, especially within the Periphery and the Wealther' Frontier.
