Orion

All of Human space

Orion, officially known as the Orion Cluster or the Orion Arm, is the part of the galaxy in which all known human civilisation resides. Although named similarly (or in some cases, exactly) like the physical galactic location known as the Orion Spur, the name Orion is often only used to refer to human inhabited space - as such, the name does not include the entirety of the Gate network either. Instead, the name is more often than not used as a colloquial name to refer to human space as a whole, without reliance on borders.

Geography

Orion is home to all known systems within the Gate Network - although it is believed that the Network may extend far beyond the edges of what is known as Orion, such a sector of the Network has yet to be discovered. The physical area covered by Orion is technically within the thousands of kilometres, with current estimates suggesting that the furthest length within Orion is over 1500 Lightyears long. However, this estimate includes all systems that lie outside the Network, but between neighbouring systems on the Network. If only the area within a star's Roche Sphere is considered, then the total area of Orion is over 50 star systems worth of claimed areas. As for actual inhabited areas, even the highest overestimates suggest that only around 10 times the area of Earth is inhabited across all planets, moons, asteroids, and stations within Orion.   Regardless, Orion acts less as a physical area within the public conscious, but rather as a neutral term for all of human space, and the name is primarily used as such a descriptor in Official documents, claimant rights, and even the amendments to the Commonwealth Constitution.
