The Beacon Principle

Many of the most powerful divine interventions and manifestation’s your character is likely to experience will be the result of a Warp Entity trying to stimulate a certain type of activity amongst your character's party, or the mortals close by.   However, Warp Entities only have a very vague understanding of material space and even less understanding of how mortals behave and react. Therefore, these stimuli are nothing like the imagery from Greek mythology of gods sitting on clouds directing their followers like chess pieces to fulfil their missions.   Instead, it’s a much more abstract and random process in which the warp entity will monitor the psychic output it is receiving from a given location in material space, and if it detects a particularly strong output it will home in on that point using it as a sort of beacon. Once satisfied that the beacon is strong and persistent enough it will then invest a portion of its own stored energy to stimulate and reinforce the signal output, hoping to increase it and receive a significant return on its investment. However, the entity itself has no direct control over how this burst of warp energy is used.   Nevertheless, because it is psychically charged with the emotional signature of the entity from which it originates, on entering the mortal realm it tends to be attracted to the primary source of the emanations it was targeted at, whether that happens to be an individual mortal or a whole group. The actual nature and form of the manifestation, or manifestations, that this burst of energy creates is determined largely by the expectations of the mortals to which it is attracted, and the GM will decide what precise form it will take and how the intervention event plays out.   Thus a large horde of Skaven will probably witness an intervention by their god The Horned Rat', whilst a similar Warband of Greenskins might witness an intervention by either Mork or Gork. It may even be possible for different individuals to see different things based on their own expectations. See The Santa Claus Principle   As players, you will be able to influence the probability of such an event occurring simply by controlling the extent to which your character, or party, is acting as a psychic beacon, and by managing your proximity to other characters or groups who may be doing so. As a general guide you can assume that any form of extreme behaviour is likely to be attracting attention from a warp entity, and if it persists for any period of time it will gradually become more and more likely that some sort of intervention will occur.
