The Altdorf River Watch are the busiest and best organised in the Empire. Their duties include the oversight of all barge traffic through the Reik-Talabec estuary, and the multitude of canals and smaller tributaries that converge with the Reik in the Princedom of Altdorf.
They operate the Altdorf terminal which includes an office, barracks, mess hall, jail, and two supply warehouses. Patrol boats are moored at Warden’s Landing. The fleet comprises many small craft outfitted with swivel guns, and several larger ships equipped with cannons.
The Altdorf River Watch is financed from the Reikland treasury. A smaller terminal exists upriver near Castle Reikguard. Town councils can employ their own riverwardens if they don’t find the Reikland River Patrol’s presence in their local waterways sufficient.
Downriver from Altdorf, between the Wasteland border and the city, the river wardens share their law enforcement duty with the Imperial Navy. Riverwardens search barges for smuggled contraband, arrest pirates and wreckers, and hunt the creatures that sometimes lurk underwater or on the Altdorf Flats.
