General Summary

Session 24FEB23

Several deities are aware of us and where we are.
Red King knows the direction, but not how far away. Around midnight, we hear a shuffling noise on the balcony; sounds like multiple beings; brace and spike the door. Put light out as it was the only light in the whole of darkness of the building and city.
We look out on the balcony there is a ~6,000 ravens; they are unusually quiet; they look at the witch then out over the horizon; she stays to pray The witch stays with the ravens, the others check the other doorway; appears to go down to the street; heroes on the stained glass window.
A knight in one of the windows; the sunlight appears to be shining down him; all the images have the sunlight shining down one them.
~8000 people would fit into the cathedral. They open the door to the front out into the street. The rising sun shines into the cathedral front; cathedral is desecrated; dedicated to a sun god of some type. Heroes of a Faith; Lawful Good/Neutral; all items have been removed.

Looking for treasure, many of the locked doors are not locked. The older wizard, and the tall red dragon [Howda] has passed out after pounding heads on the wall; wizard states this is normal.

The wizard states we could stay here, but no food or water and the Red King may be upon us is short time. Bard suggesting to go back to the shore and signal the ship.
The ravens become vocal; I mind link with ravens; they panicked they will not able to follow the one they are supposed to follow; there are three of them that are very smart; 100 or so that are smarter then the rest.

The Ranger picks the Howda's pockets; finds figures, broken locket; uncut gem polished on one side; eagle of onyx; tiger also stone; tiny bell earring size with hook, figurine sized; cut ring, has both half.

I ask why they (ravens) are supposed to following us; a very large raven 90lbs 6' wingspan; I hear the voice of a very old creature; dark forces are actively searching for us; mental image of small city, in the background a volcano. This does not defeat the Red King, but makes him mortal; there are three towers in a unique pattern; we could teleport nearby and walk there.
The item needs to be thrown into the volcano.

The ravens were sent to protect us; they are witches familiars; once we tell them where we're going they take off in a panicked flight northwest.

Ask the wizard can he get us there; thinks he can get us within a six days walk; We head to the teleport room; ~30 ravens land on us within the teleport circles.

When we arrive, there are many creatures walking around and several of them start calling out in various languages; large wotsit, ocrs, goblins, higher level undead. Witch cast eldritch blast hits the creature; but it is chained and working a machine that is powering something.

The three larger ravens attack three other creatures; the rest of the ravens swirl around us.
Bard is playing the harp and trying to sleep as many creatures as possible; able to sleep about 6 and 2 more go down.
Three goblins in purple make their save against the sleep.
Undead 2; with clothes and weapons moving toward us.
The beast on the wheel has two sets of eyes and is looking around at the commotion.
Druid is using the Bless Ring; casts Bless on Ranger, Witch, Cleric, Bard.
Orcs have polearms; halbreds. Some undead unchain the large creature and at that moment, the wizard banishes the unchained creature.
Howda rushes at the goblins.
Ravens break in all directions, chasing the goblins and hobgoblin.
I cast Fire bolt catches one of the undead on fire; I send Defender (Snav) to attack goblins.
Ranger cast Hail of Thorns; hits...
Undead are held
Druid (Balfor) hits the Undead
The Wizard disintegrates two skeletons; they are gone.
Two Orcs, two Hobgoblins, two goblins...
I shoot at a fire bolt
Howda takes out a Hobgoblin

One Goblin is going out the other tunnel; Ranger shots him and the goblin sprays blood as he disappears around the corner; later find it dead.
Orc turns and yells "we're under attack!" in Orcish. Howda throws the orc to the ceiling the orc is not moving.

The banished creature does not return; meaning that it was not from this plane.
Orcs were killed when the fireball was pushed down the hall. They are on fire wearing plate with heavy weapons.
We are standing and fighting the orcs. Bard cast lacerates the leading Orc.

We took out the two lead orcs; Steel defender does the call; Cleric does a command; 4 stand their ground, the others run in panic stampede.
One orc lowers face plate, one has a wand and looks determined. Witch cuts his throat; and the orc can't speak, but is able to cast a spell, thunder wave. Three of us made saving throw, the rest of us are thrown back 10'; the spell did not have the damage component, but we're unbalanced.

The orc in plate is choking Howda on the ground; cleric cast spell and gets the orc's attention and he is charging at the cleric.
I cast Prismatic Spray on the Orc in plate; acid 10d6 damage 21+24 and is blinded.
Witch heals Howda.
Ranger pulls out the bow from the Red King trophy room; Is able to Call the Shot +d6 on attack; hits orc to moved 10' to the side of cleric, but the orc is down.
Cleric casts Guiding Bolt on the orc; hits the orc.
The orc gets up, pulls the arrow out of his face, and charges the Ranger.
Bard cast lacerates the Orc.
Druid was able to cast Hold Person and successfully held the orc.
The acid is not effecting the armor.
I remove his shield, weapon and helm; I say nothing and present the orc to the others.
The Ranger uses a two handed sword; in his head the sword says,"snickey snack", then "It's okay, he was naughty."; no blood on the sword. easily removed from the floor. Ranger asks the sword's name, sword says it is a "Tyrant Slayer". Some of us notice the Ranger is talking to the sword.

Druid(Balfor) has the staff from the orc and the staff is magical.
Bard and cleric gets from all the bodies

    Witch gets from magic user:
    Magic user pouch scroll tube; has a huge detailed map of ruins; food storage, barracks, and other places; two place marked as fortification; wizard robes; Elven iron ration; honey mead; several tiny boxes with scribe devices or ink.

    There are two javelins; 20 arrows; Witch shots the one arrow into the butt of dead orc and exploded into a shower of arrows; now has 19 arrows; gives 8 to the Ranger. He examines one of the arrows and finds small inscription on the tip of the arrow - wasp symbol; roll a d20 to create that number of arrows that explode.
    Red beaded necklace; not sure who has this or what it does.

    The Witch shows the group the map; there are two fortifications that we will investigate later.
    We look down the hall; find weapons and rations for orcs; a latrine down other hall.

    Outside of the building there is something that was being built; appears to be a catapult; 30 ballistae bolts. weapons and misc stuff dropped from the fleeing orcs and goblins.

    There is a statue with skeletal hand that points into the distance, An outer amphitheater holds about 150 beings.
    We see the orcs and goblins running into the hills; Snav does the 'sound' again and cleric casts another spell to scare them off.
    Ranger picks up about 10 arrows of Orcish design.

    We go back to set fire to as many things as possible.

    We encounter the ravens and they follow us.

    When we get to the top of some hills, we can see the volcano in the distance. On the map, there are a group of houses that we could get to the by nightfall, if we jog; we decide to do that.

    Cleric finishes reading the Book that increases Wisdom +2 with max 22; he is at 22.

    Cresting hill everything is alive; trees with fruit; there is a hut with smoke curling out of the chimney; it smells like bacon cooking. There's a breeze and the air feels thicker and cleaner.

    An older voice says "Ooh, visitors!".

    Wizard casts a spell to make the illusion go away; can see chicken legs under the house.
    A very old ancient woman and she says to the Ranger, "I see a darkness within you.".
    The witch is invited into the house by the old woman.
    The witch asks if things will gets worse, the old woman says, "Not for me." and the witch casts dragon's breath and the old woman dismiss the spell; the witch's broom is fighting away; I send Snav to give disadvantage.
    The house stands up on the chicken legs; it's about 25' in the air. The cleric and wizard go into the house.
    Advi asked the Ranger to ask the sword if it would like the chicken legs.
    Ranger using the Orge Gauntlets and the sword is not able to hit the leg; sword flies out of his hands.

    The Bard flies up to the door and into the house; and is offered tea. Bard offers Earl Grey tea and the old woman takes the tea. Old woman is encouraging the Bard to drink the tea she is serving.

    I examine:
    Red apple almost ripe; indentations in the ground around the base of the tree; appears to be a runes.

    "Of your own free will would you do something for me." said the old woman says to the Bard; bard states that we are on a different mission; the old woman is is getting dark. She states you're going to a volcano...

    The old woman is controlling Snav; Bard casts Gift of Gab; fails.
    She finds the "finger"; the Cleric(Balfor) touches the lantern and activates it; the old woman's glamour disappears and reveals that she is a demon(?) has talons; the light does nothing to her and she likes the light, "This is fun." referring to the 'finger'.
    Old Woman dumps everyone out of the house, and the house walks away leaving a trail of healthy green plants/old growth forest.
    We follow the trail left by the chicken legged house, and camp along the pathway before it gets dark.
