Vexan Phalanx

''Lines and lines of armored men with kettle helmets and long billhooks stand before the enemy, hooking and stabbing it's way though the their hordes. Left and right men fall, but few drops of Vexan blood spill when the Phalanx is on his way.''

1400 men manpower plus 400 in supplychain.

Equipment

100 carts of tents, pots, medical equipment and food.

900 Halbediers with the 3.5 meter long Battle Billhooks. 200 Swordbearers men on the flanks. 300 mounted and foot skirmishers.

Vehicles

between 100 and 200 horses for the mounted skirmishers.

Structure

Pikemen A block of 10 x 5 (50 men) are called a ''squad'', being commanded by a Lieutenant. 2 squads (100 men) are being a ''duplo'', being commanded by a Captain. 3 duplo (300 men) are called a ''battalion'', being commanded by a Major. 3 battalions (900 men) are being called ''the center line'', being commanded by a Lord

Training

For training as a Pikemen you undergo a 3 week training and drilling, in wich the formation is explained and there is practiced in combat. The army always puts the strongest men in front, and being in front pays more, or better said, standing behind pays less... For every row you stand behind the front row a soldier gets 30 copper pieces a week less. Soldiers often try to make it look like they are standing more in front then they are, making the formation less likely to break.

Logistics

Upkeep

The High Council of Vexan spends yearly 2200 GP a year on a single Phalanx, meaning that if all that money would go to the pay of the soldiers, every soldier would het 2GP a year (wich is not true, since a frontline soldier gets 1290CP a year).

Recruitment

Becomming a Pikemen or a Swordbearer in a Phalanx is not that hard, you just have to be a healthy Vexan male not longer then 2.00M and not shorter then 1.60M. Becomming a Skirmisher is even easier, since everyone can practicly join the Skirmishers core if they want to. The only rule there is that if there is a male serving as Pikemen or Swordbearer then a female familymember can't join the same Phalanx (to avoid breaking the line for a fallen skirmisher). Equipment must be self bought if joining the Skirmishers.
