Mijo Baker (a.k.a. the thief)

The thief is one of the most popular criminals of the South Magocracy despite his identity being unknown and him being very evasive to the point that not even tracking spells made by the South Sentries (and even the army reserve members at some point) are futile. Little is known about him other than the fact that he usually steals food and health supplies from the military bases. Only two people have made contact with him prior to the year 1592--- Nathan Cakes and Stanvey Bravery.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Mijo Baker is considered small compared to the South's standard. He is 5'7" and is very skinny due to the fact that he skips many meals often. His most notable characteristics are his light tan skin and curly hair as not a lot of Southerners have a deep tan and most people have straight hair. He has an acute, untreated astigmatism although he barely even noticed until 1600.

Mijo Baker's left eyebrow was singed by a vendor who can control fire.

Physical quirks

Mijo's dominant hand is his left one. He tried to become ambidextrous but failed because he really wasn't used to it. One of Mijo's most noticeable physical habit is that he rubs his index and middle finger against his thumb when he's nervous or sad. He often also bites the right side of his lower lip when he wants to say something but refuses to.

Special abilities

Mijo can control plants and use their properties for healing, camouflage, etc. He originally got this ability by drawing power from a magic draft that his aunt made for him to help him channel his ability of magic. The draft was made through common house green ingredients which helped Mijo gain the ability to control plants. The list of spells he can do are the following:

• Jade Leaf Spell for healing common illnesses

• Malunggay Leaf Spell for long term anti-sickness

• Yellowrod Leaf Spell for healing wounds and cuts

• Ufrera Leaf Spell for healing burns

• Boughestille Vine Spell for hiding or fighting; has expanding properties

• Hydrus Vine Spell for water storage and transport.

• Desius Plant has multiple purposes. Its leaves can grant camouflage powers and its roots can be used to stun opponents. Its flowers are also used for invisibility by other plant mages but Mijo only uses its roots and leaves.

• Ferius Root Spell for fighting; has stringy webbing properties

• Germaindrea Leaf Spell for increased stamina; must be ingested to cast the spell

• Aviangold Root Spell for intoxicating his opponents.

Some spells require Mijo to ingest the leaf or root to cast the spell while some only require him to touch the plant and focus. Mijo is restricted to using leaves and roots only and can't extend his magic to flowers or fruits.

Apparel & Accessories

Mijo always wears simple clothes: a white or brown dress shirt, black pants and sandals made by his mom. Since he was 4, he's been wearing a plant charm around his neck, made from plants that he can control or use magically. After his father died, Mijo wears pass-me-downs from him although his mom helped fashion them in a way that fits him.

Specialized Equipment

Mijo's Plant Necklace--- The necklace is formed by a long strand of Southern Jade Vine and about 10 beads made from leaves of the plants that Mijo can control.

Personal history

Mijo Baker was born on the fourth month of 1576. His parents are Mia Dauntings and Jamie Baker who a were both married farmers in the village of White Rock until they were kicked out due to sinking below the poverty line and because of Jamie being caught of trying to kidnap a whole cow (1575). Jamie and Mia lived in the forest southwest of White Rock Village.
Mijo was born two years later and at an early age, he was taught the basics of living off scraps. He was taught magic by his aunt who traveled to the forest with them and better their living condition. At the age of four, Mijo became interested in plants and was taught his first spell which is to use plants for healing. At age 7, he mastered the ability of controlling plants (process will be explained later. At this time, he began helping his father with looting from White Rock Village. They continue this deed especially when Mijo turned 9, his younger siblings, the twins Johni and Miguel, were born and they needed more food for the whole family.
When Mijo reached 11 years old, he ran away from home because he didn't want to feel the pressure of being the oldest sibling but eventually he returned after learning that his aunt died trying to track him down. She was captured by soldiers who accused her of murdering an 8 year old boy who had died around the area. Grief struck the Baker household.
Jamie Baker died of pig's disease at the age of 45 when Mijo was only 13.
His loss fueled his aggression, becoming a well-known thief despite hiding his identity. Some instances when he stole even involved robbery. For two years, White Rock Village and even Magna City was victimized by the thief until 1592 when he was trying to rob the Magna City Alchemic Hub to find a cure for his little brother's missiles, he was stopped by Stanvey Bravery, the mayor of Magna City that time. Stanvey offered a barter--- he will personally leave a kit filled with food and supplies for Mijo every quarter of the year until Mijo is 20 only IF Mijo stopped his criminal acts. Mijo took the barter, telling Stanvey that "he'll regret it." After this event, Mijo merely waits every end of the quarter for a relief package but spares most of its goods for his mother and brother. He spends most of his time away from home, tending to the forest and improving his abilities just in case Stanvey Bravery pulls out on his promise.

Education

Mijo Baker was home-schooled by all of his older family members--- his mom, dad and aunt. He learned basic hunting skills and cooking skills from his dad. He learned basic history and mathematics from his mom and learned magic from his aunt who also used plantbased magic.

Intellectual Characteristics

Mijo is very observant, being always on the run and living in the forest. He can identify what's wrong visually in a matter of seconds although he is also prone to spacing out which sometimes fogs his awareness. Spacing out also distracts him from audio disturbances although he considers himself to have good hearing. When he was still young, he was very goofy and happy-go-lucky to the point that he makes others decide for him but after losing his father, he tends to exercise his ability to decide for his own. He builds up his logic by living in the wild and by mastering his abilities at a young age. When Stanvey Bravery met him, the man noted that Mijo acts and looks as someone older as he did pull off intricate robberies without getting anyone to track him down.

Mijo Baker exemplifies the alignment: True Neutral. His actions are depending on what he thinks is right or beneficial at the moment. Although he has broken the law several times, he abides by the Laws of Magic of not seeking too much power for himself. He also follows through with his promise with Stanvey BRavery of not attacking people but is willing to carry out a plan b if Stanvey doesn't hold himself true to their barter. The only people Mijo are very kind to are those that have known him and chose to accept him but Mijo extends a hand to people who he thinks doesn't deserve it. His decisions are mostly circumstantial.

Motivation

Mijo is still discovering himself and what he wants to do with his life but he's always wanted to live normally without having to worry about survival and loss. He wants to live as a normal citizen with civil rights but he can't since he can't abandon his family; his mother might be recognizable to some. He always wanted to be somebody else.

He is considered as an introvert, always preferring to be by himself than to be with others although when one does engage in a conversation with him, he can be talkative if he wants to.

Hobbies & Pets

Mijo tamed a wild fox when he was 12 and ever since then the fox has been by his side and became his best friend. He named it 'Yubi.' Yubi is a foot tall, dark brown fox with wide golden eyes. He has no known magical abilities much like the rest of his species.

Mijo is considered as a lower class citizens as he, his mom and his siblings all live under one small hut far away from other settlements. They usually only eat once a day, twice if lucky enough. Since Mia Dauntings can't enter village grounds, she only grows little food from their garden and once in awhile, Mijo steals meat from nearby barn but ever since Stanvey Bravery vouched for Mijo, the boy stopped stealing and relied solely on what Stanvey brought them.
