Because of this and genetic research, calling each group a different species is considered controversial at best. Things like a single eye or multiple limbs are becoming more and more of an ethnic commonality than a sign of species.

History

How this evolutionary chain lasted this long is still being researched. It has been know and speculated during Earth's history that Humanity and Giants interacted. Before any confirmation (fossils, settlements, etc.) there was a working theory called the Giant-human contact theory.
Archaeological records show that the Giants had a period of mutation that led to the many ethnicities found today. Historically records show how these cultures evolved with and from one another. Like with most races, wars, disasters and other things happened. What is unusual is that these things are more far apart.
