The Ferret Finds Its Feet

A spectral bartender, enchanted lighting, and the warm hum of conversation? It could only be The Frightened Ferret, Trollskull Alley’s newest—and most supernaturally stylish—watering hole.
I caught up with Kostas Rell, one of the adventurers behind the tavern, at the Ferret’s grand opening to learn more about the team’s vision for this peculiar pub.
“It is indescribable,” Kostas said of working alongside the Ferret’s ghostly co-owner, Thorn. “Being a part of the history is just a great opportunity—not only from a business perspective, but also culturally. We have some of the most amazing neighbors in all of Waterdeep, and we are just so proud and privileged to be here.”
Though the team splits their time between tavernkeeping and adventuring, they remain committed to their community. “It can be a challenge,” Kostas admits, “but it’s also a rewarding opportunity to give perspective—the idea that the world is bigger than Trollskull and Waterdeep.”
Future plans? Expect more than just ale and ambiance. A gift shop filled with trinkets and tokens is on the way, and the Ferret aims to become a “Destination within Waterdeep.” Among those cheering them on is Renaer Neverember, whom the team credits as a quiet but vital supporter of their efforts to make the Ferret a neighborhood staple.
As for the tavern’s vibe? “Dive bar meets enchanted forest—with a haunted house twist,” I told Kostas. He laughed and nodded. “That’s fair.” With a warm hearth, second-to-none kitchen staff, and a truly spirited bartender, The Frightened Ferret is more than just a tavern—it’s an experience.
