Order of the Gauntlet
The Order of the Gauntlet is Waterdeep’s executive authority on divine justice and supernatural threat response, composed of warriors, paladins, and clergy sworn to uphold the ideals of law, vigilance, and moral purity. Though not a formal military force, the Order operates under city sanction and answers to both the Open Lord and the Righteous Hand, its supreme commander.
Rigid in discipline and resolute in purpose, the Order exists to root out corruption, punish the wicked, and confront threats that extend beyond the reach of mundane law enforcement. Whether facing cults, infernal contracts, undead incursions, or divine disturbances, its members act with the moral certainty of those who believe justice is not just a principle—but a duty.
In Waterdeep, the Order’s presence has long offered stability to the city’s moral backbone. However, that stability has been shaken by the recent assassination of Vindicator Helmar Dreyfus, the city’s highest-ranking representative. With the local chain of command fractured and no replacement yet appointed, the Order’s influence has receded, leaving a dangerous void in the fight against growing threats.
