Amulet of Detection

This finely crafted amulet resembles an ornate pendant, with a small, opaque gemstone at its center that changes color in the presence of active magic. Once per day, the wearer can activate the amulet as an action, causing the gemstone to detect active magic within a 10-foot radius. It takes a full minute for the detection to process, during which the gemstone gradually shifts to display the color associated with any school of magic active during that minute. The amulet’s ability is renewed by the light of dawn each day, allowing it to reset every morning.

Effect: After one minute, the amulet’s gemstone changes color to indicate the presence of a specific school of magic within a 10-foot radius. The color corresponds to the school of magic detected (see chart below). If multiple types of magic are present, the stone displays a prismatic swirl, combining colors in an iridescent pattern. The amulet does not reveal the source or direction of the magic; it simply indicates that active magic is nearby.

Limitations: The amulet only detects currently active magic. Recently cast but dissipated spells will not be detected. The amulet requires an action to activate and can be used once per day.
