Vrix

The Vrix are a species of skeletons that live hidden away in the Arsaketh Nebula. They keep to themselves and repel or kill all intruders and interlopers in their territory. The high priests of their race can tap into the powers of their ancient gods and channel necromancer powers to create new Vrix life.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Although they typically take a humanoid form, the Vrix will use whatever bones they scavenge from other species. Because of this the Vrix come in various shapes and sizes. They can have multiple limbs, different skull shapes and body shapes.

Genetics and Reproduction

After deciding to have a child, a Vrix couple or family will leave Arkaseth to scavenge bones and parts for their young. They will harvest any and all bones that feel right, with no preference about cadaver age or species. After they have enough parts they will return to their home and hand the bones over to the High Seers. Taking the bones to their temple, the Seers will take up to a month to return to the parents with a newborn Vrix. Their powers allow the High Seers to form and mold the bones into that of a baby, infused with necromancy that allow life. Sometimes a child with be 'born' with the powers of the Old Gods. It is a rare occurrence, and when it does happen, the child will be indoctrinated among the High Seers once they reach the age of 7.

Growth Rate & Stages

Being made with the necromancy powers of the old gods and having it infused in their bones, it allows them to grow and age like any other race. Once the scavenged bones are turned into new life in the form of a baby, it acts as any living being.

Ecology and Habitats

The Vrix don't need oxygen and therefore can survive and live in the Arkaseth nebula. Their civilisation is set on a series of large islands, each lashed together and connected by bridges. The islands appear to have a gravity field although it is unknown what causes it, meaning the Vrix can easily walk and travel on the islands.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Vrix need to energy provided by food and sleep however they consume only what is required. If a Vrix consumes food with needing the energy provided, the food will simply pass through the rib cage and fall out though the open skeleton. If the food is required it vanishes after being consumed.

Social Structure

Being a religious race, the society is ruled by the High Seers and their order. They worship the old gods and therefore their 'chosen' that have been gifted with their powers. As such they rarely question the Seers. There are some Vrix that have strayed from doctrine and travelled beyond the nebula for purposes other than bone scavenging and these are viewed as 'Heretics'.

Average Technological Level

Despite having the technological level for space travel, within the Arkaseth Nebula they seems to be a quite prehistoric and tribal.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Vrix worship the Old Gods, ancient beings lost from this dimension that fed on and induced insanity and fear. They were banished from the realm millennia back after the realisation that they could not be killed. They tear where the Ancient Ones were banished is found in the Arkaseth Nebula, where the Vrix make their home, allowing them to draw and embody the powers leaking through. The entire culture of the Vrix centres around their worship of the Old Gods, since it is their powers that give them life and allow them to procreate.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Despite their abhorrence of intruders in their nebula, the Vrix do keep several outposts on the outskirts of Arkaseth where they allow other species to do trade. Many species will come here to sell bones that they themselves have scavenged, hoping to tempt Vrix about to set off in search of parts for their child.
