Chapter 1: Heroes For Hire: Whispers of the Mask

In the shadows of Greenville, a new band of adventurers known as the Heroes for Hire forms, drawn together by strange happenings and rising tensions in the city. As they navigate political intrigue and shifting alliances, they uncover a disturbing truth. The so called Mad King has fallen under the sway of a charming priest named Obald, whose church, The Wisdom of the Mask, is quickly becoming a dominant force. But beneath the holy facade, Obald hides a terrible secret.   While Illyria infiltrates the church to expose Obald, the group finds themselves caught between corrupt crime lords, secret councils, and the ever-growing threat of war. Their journey begins with subtle investigations and local skirmishes, but soon escalates into deadly pursuits, hidden temples, and the discovery of powerful artifacts. As secrets unravel and ancient powers stir, the Heroes for Hire step into a much larger conflict, one that threatens not only Greenville but the very fabric of Wardenfall itself.

Chapter 2: Guardian of the Whispering Glade: Corruption Beneath the First Root

The party embarks on a perilous journey into the Tandalin Jungle after learning of a devastating infestation plaguing the Heartwood Wilds. Upon arrival, they are unexpectedly swallowed by a massive snapping turtle, transporting them deep into the jungle’s hidden interior. Bovnuk, recognizing the region near his homeland, is determined to uncover the cause of the corruption, while Dain expresses a keen interest in the mining operations recently established by Yvelian forces. Rumors suggest these operations may involve the New Horde’s growing slave trade. Facing deadly Yuan-Ti broodguards and unlocking the ancient Athamora Gate through clever puzzles, the group gains passage into the corrupted jungle heart.   Venturing deeper, the heroes discover disturbing signs. Fungal corruption spreads like a plague, strange hag marks hint at the return of the dreaded bog witches, and the ancient First Root, the legendary tree believed to anchor all life in the Heartwood Wilds, is losing its connection to the land. Their path leads them to the Chasm of Lost Echoes, a massive rift whose depths remain uncharted and seem to exude an ancient, unsettling power. Amidst this turmoil, new factions rise, including the enigmatic Enclave led by Yrsa the Dreamweaver. Fragments of forgotten civilizations, like the Jungle Kingdom of Xotlan, resurface, their histories hinting at primal forces awakening once more.   With the immediate threat to Bovnuk’s homeland pressing upon them and the jungle’s mysteries deepening, the party steels themselves for what lies ahead. Their quest is no longer just about halting the corruption, it is about uncovering secrets buried for millennia and confronting forces older and more terrible than any they have ever known. Unwittingly, the heroes find themselves at the heart of a growing storm, one that could unleash the greatest threat Wardenfall has ever faced.
