The Lovecraftian Order
Guardians of the World from the Forces of the Far Realms
Created about 80 years ago by Rand Lovecraft, the Lovecraftian Order is a collection of like-minded individuals who share one common goal: the exposure and eradication of the influence of the Elder Gods and Great Old Ones. They are drawn from all walks of life, the only real thing in common being a touch of madness and a firm belief in the unexplained. Where most of the outside world is convinced these eldritch horrors aren't real, those of the Order know better; they have seen them, felt their minds go astray with the maddening knowledge of things outside space and time.
Structure
The Lovecraftian Order is structured loosely into a militaristic hierarchy, with a clear leader and his subordinates branching off into cells around the world. Carter West is the current Master Investigator, the leader of the entire order. Under him, there are six Elder Investigators, leading cells around the world investigating strange occurrences. Under the Elder Investigators are the Lead Investigators, leading small teams of Seekers in field missions. The research side of the organization is led by Rask Grafstone, the Master Librarian; under him, there are numerous Head Librarians, then Lead Researchers, and Acolytes.
Public Agenda
The Order does not operate publicly; they try and keep their affairs under the radar, as most religious organizations feel their activities and methods are counter-intuitive from the church's and are blasphemous. In addition, the knowledge of the Far Realms is taken as myth and baseless fairy tale in most places, and so to avoid harassment and possible legal trouble the Order keeps their mission clandestine; however, their "Public" goal is to protect the world from the mad influence of the Outer Gods and Great Old Ones.
Assets
Income from a front, a magic item shop called the Doctor's Orders, a secret hideout built into the building adjacent, resources and intel provided by members undercover in various fields; treasure and artifacts brought back by field teams are sold, kept for study, sealed away (if dangerous), or reused.
