The Galius Vas
The Galius Vas, a eldric term literally meaning 'grand clash' and typically referring to a long due, large and inevitable conflict, is a large, ongoing war between the kingdoms of Galayin and Undyr.
This war has had notable effects on the political climate of the mid and north eastern regions for years before it ever started. With Undyr's slow and steady conquest and expansion of their power, it's been predicted for decades that the two kingdoms would end up on each other's border. With the signing of the Northswain concord and Undyr's acquisition of Nathsfeld several years ago, this finally became a reality. While it took nearly a decade for war to be formally declared, the Knights of Galayin had been preparing for years for the conflict, as many had said the only thing that might be able to put a stop to Undyr was Galayin's elite army even before they were neighbors.
The inevitability of this conflict has led to many other parties having to choose sides in alliances and trade, and these tensions helped to divide the entire of the north and mid-east. These issues only got worse once the war was officially declared, forcing many city states that had tried to maintain trade with both empires to either choose as side or hide away from the conflict altogether.
Even as far west as Glenweald the effects have been felt somewhat, as Galayin's need of devoting resources to the war has slowed their exports. More impactfully, the Knights of Galayin have had to massively reduce their patrols on the rest of the world, leaving more monsters and other threats free to roam the roads. While their patrols never regularly reached outside of the mid-east, over the years this has allowed populations of certain monsters to grow and migrate, affecting a much larger area.
The war itself has been largely one of attrition, both sides well aware of the military might of the other. There have been the occasional exchanges of territory and forts, mostly in Undyr's favor, but neither side wants to push too aggressively, knowing full well what will happen if they leave themselves exposed.
