Kemendira

Kemendira is the capital of Uthmar, the sole inheritors of the Mardin Empire, for better or worse. Having recovered quite rapidly from the 160 years of terror under Rakshasa rule, this former city-state has stepped from obscurity to take its place among the great capitals of Lamera. Trade is the foundation upon which Kemendira’s glittering palaces, temples and monuments are built. Wealth, privilege and profit are worshiped here and all power flows from them. The poor are naught but another commodity to be bought and sold. No other Uthmaran city so embodies the ethos of the princes of the Celestial House of Muhtar, the noble house that dominates the kingdom of Uthmar. Kemendira is the fruit of their ambition and a mirror to the darkness of their souls. It is a city where a smile can hide a thousand betrayals. Like a true Muhtar, Kemendira conceals its evil behind a glittering façade.

Defences

Surprisingly, Kemendira does not have a full wall around it. Just on its sheer size alone, the city is very difficult to lay siege to, made even more difficult by the city's series of interlocking brick-walled districts that can be easily sealed off at a moments notice.   The city maintains 12,000 city watchmen and their officers, which barely seems to be able to contain the numerous people living within the city.   7,500 soldiers of the Uthmaran army are also stationed here, as well as 2,000 sailors and naval workers.

Industry & Trade

Second only to Alzira in the matters of trade, one can find anything they want in Kemendira, provided they were willing to pay a high enough price. The black market is alive and well in Kemendira, as the city watchmen tend to turn a blind eye to it. Even given the very anti-slavery views of many Uthmaran, rumors abound that one of the Slave Lords does business here, though few of the locals can bear to say it out loud.
