Three-Trees, Gateway to the Deep Lament
The settlement known as Three-Trees is the gateway to the deeper, and far more dangerous, region of the Lament. It is the hub, from both an economic and societal view point, of the populace ekking out an existence within the boggy marshlands. Three-trees hosts a weekly market as well as a Grand Bazaar once a year. Such events are little known to outsiders. What is broadly known beyond the borders of the Lament is that the village is the safest place for expeditions and forrays into the Deep Lament to scavenge for artifacts and relics from the times of the Godsfel.
Three-Trees is built in and among the only known grove of trees in the wetlands. The trees of the Lament are known for being thick trunked yet squat in form with wide canopies and even wider root systems that start well above the waterline. The only foliage that grows from the trees are vine like clumps at the ends of the branches. The three trees of the village are enormous specimens of the species, extending upwards of twenty furlongs1 into the misty sky. Residents live in homes built within the root system or in homes among the boughs. The five central platforms are connected by stairways and rope bridges to the rest of the community. The three lower platforms hold the various markets and shops, while the fourth is dedicated to the only proper inn for the entirety of the Lament. The top platform is used as both an open air theatre and, when the occassion calls for it, a community forum.
Of course, the only reason that Three-Trees is known outside of The Lament is due it being the gateway for the antiquities trade. Thus the only real business in the settlement is Dacre & Sons, currently operated by Sir Dior Dacre who is one of the few experts of Godsfel antiquities on the continent. Their services include antiquity assessment, auction brokering, expedition outfitting, and travel security. While most of the scavs operate independantly out of Three-Trees, even they typically buy supplies from Dacre as well as having anything they find assessed by them.

What a cool settlement like that the rest of the world only knows it for a specific type of trading
Thank you! I try to imagine what outsiders and general populace would think/know about a place in my world. Much like irl, I don't know much about Egyptian archeological sites. I just know that it's hot/miserable and a lot of antiquities were stolen from Egypt by outsiders in the name of science but really for the prestige and money.
