The Major Deities
The 24 Major Deities who rule from the 24 Thrones. Each one governs a specific concept, and any who succeed one of the 24 succeeds that concept in some way.
These are:
Felavar, Keeper of Graves
Area of Concern: History, knowledge, graves, and burial.
Felavar is not the god who governs death, but he has long been the patron of burials and graveyards. As the god of history and knowledge, Felavar is the patron of libraries and records of the past. He keeps a record of the world, and those who pass within find eternity within his halls. He is known to have conflict with Ar'athaz, the Source of Lies, another god that encroaches on the territory of knowledge. His faithful tend to graveyards, their places of worship often doubling as libraries or vaults.
Clemen, the White Angel
Area of Concern: Mercy, compassion, redemption and healing.
Clemen is the god of mercy. The White Angel is the patron of healers, a commonly praised symbol of compassion and healing. The Idol of Life asks his followers to be kind to all, to be understanding of all differences and struggles, to offer a path of redemption to beings. Clemen's own legend claims than the White Angel was once a vile sinner of the worst kind, before he was spared by the previous god of Mercy. The Redeemed Lord inspires others to follow in his path, encouraging them to not give up on themselves too quickly.
Shenri, Saprophyte Queen
Area of Concern: Death, decay, the cycle of life.
The Wen Lady, the Saprophyte Queen, Shenri is the goddess of death. Formerly an Elemental Lord of Wood, the Fermenting Architect gave up that role when she accepted the power of true death. Representing the cycle of life and death, Shenri manages her domain with an impassionate gaze. While many gods are associated with death, Shenri alone is recognised as its ruler, managing the flow of souls and life. She encourages the process of life into death, and life being born from death. She is often associated with mushrooms and fungus, plants that are born from decay and rot. Her followers place similar importance on the value of death as a source of life. Shenri is violently opposed to the forces of unlife, seeing them as agaisnt the natural order.
Zrelesh, The Thousand Faced Serpent
Area of Concern: Propagation, immortality, rebirth, serpents, and samsara.
Zrelesh the Serpentine Patron of Armaiztia is the god of eternity. A serpent that constantly molts and changes, Zrelesh pursues a truly ummortal existance. The Armaiztian Empire, of which he is the patron revere him as their Divine Father, with the rulers of the solitary empire claiming to have lineage that leads back to him. But Zrelesh is haunted by a shadow, a tail he long abandoned that took on its own life, and is dedicated to ending the Thousand Faced Serpent. Zrelesh is also the patron of those who seek to extend their lives or legacies, or those who wish to leave a lasting mark on this world.
Cilic, Harmony of the Dead
Area of Concern: Undeath, song, gluttony, and collective will.
Cilic the Queen of the Undead rules from a palace surrounded by undead servitors. There she sings her eternal song, a dark lullaby that drifts through graves and cemetaries, inviting the once dead to rise again and join her in chorus. Those that rise are guided by a voice only they can hear. She is the patron of undead, and those who dabble in such magics.
Trep, He who Gazes upon the Sightless Sea
Area of Concern: Time, preservation, protection, and prophecy.
Trep is the god of prophecy. He sits on the edge of time itself, gazing out onto it constantly. Using the knowledge he gains from this constant vigil, Trep acts in this world to continue existence, defending agaisnt horrors who will rear their heads centuries later. Trep's faithful often devote their lives to interpreting his cryptic sentences, and acting on them. He is the patron of fortune tellers, and those who seek to predict the future. Those who look to defend others, or the world also count themselves amongst his faithful, as they share his purpose of preservation.
Vaktriq, the All-Consuming Nightmare
Area of Concern: Destruction, disaster and gluttony.
Vaktriq is the god of destruction. A monster that carved it's way across the world, Vaktriq has since been sealed, unable to sate it's appetite. Many claim that if Vaktriq had been allowed to continue, it would not have stopped until all of creation had been consumed. A being existing only for destruction, those who follow Vaktriq display similarly destructive tendecies. The Lord of Ruin has no written scripture nor organised faith, but that does not prevent creatures from offering him praise all the same. Those who praise Vaktriq exact their destruction upon everything. The All-Consuming Nightmare cares not how or why these deeds are done, only that the world continues to slowly degrade itself, all becoming a meal for its insatiable maw.
Ar'athaz, the Source of Lies
Area of Concern: Deception, secrets, fiends and invention.
Ar'athaz used to be a weaker cthonic lord, before concocting a scheme that saw him ascend to the ranks of the Major Deities. None know the details of what happened that fateful night, for Ar'athaz struck both the name of his predecessor and the nature of his ascension from record. What is known is that the King of Lies quickly established his presence amongst the 24, orchestrating the fall of 2 other members of the Major Deities shortly after his rise. Ar'athaz is the patron of liars and decievers, and he is known for his constantly changing plans and tricks. He encourages those who follow him to not simply lie and cheat, but to be innovative about it, to allow each trick to be greater than the last. Those who lie and cheat others often give praise to the Ar'athaz.
The Faceless Vortex
Area of Concern: Magic
The Faceless Vortex, the Wellspring Gyre, the Living Font. There are many names for this Void. The Vortex is the source of all magic, an eternal whirlpool that hums with power. Ancient secrets and new knowledge alike swirl within it's depths, each with the ability to change the world should they fall into the wrong hands. Many scholars have questioned why the Faceless Vortex is considered a Major Deity, often pointing to other gods of magic, such as the ancient Anak'thir, who would be better suited to the role. Indeed, the Faceless Vortex has no major following, nor any guiding principles beyond the use of magic. However the strange and foolish who pray to the Vortex for salvation claim to hear a voice. A wordless cry that echoes deep within the heart of that featureless destruction. Whatever the source of the sound, only those who pray extensively ever recieve anything from the Vortex.
Aureach, Key to the Solitary Vault
Area of Concern: Gold, law, transactions and vaults.
Aureach, Master of the First Coin, was the first mortal to develop the system of coin that exists today. From her seat in the Solitary Vault, Aureach watches her immense collection of wealth. As Key to the Solitary Vault Aureach governs contracts and transactions, as well as the underpinning laws and rules that give those contracts meaning. Gold has no value if the law cannot support it, and Aureach works to ensure her legacy lives on. Her followers are often those in positions of bureaucracy, those who deal with gold on a regualr basis.
Hastur, the Prince in Yellow
Area of Concern: Madness, old ones, chaos and otherworldly power.
The Prince in Yellow is one of the most dangerous gods of the Major Deities. Hastur originates from beyond Vria, formerly existing as an Outer God. By possessing a mortal and taking a seat amongst the Major Deities, Hastur marked the beginning of a dangerous precendent. It was his ascension that caused the end of the Divine Wars, as all other gods banded together to ensure that the Prince in Yellow was prevented from wreaking further havoc upon their world. Sealed away, Hastur still holds his rank as the god of chaos, and has a following on Vria. Those who flock to his banner are the desperate and the mad. Any who seek to understand forbidden truths, claim power beyond others, or who seek salvation that other gods cannot offer all appeal to the Prince in Yellow. When Hastur deigns to respond to these pleas, the results can be incredibly destructive. People who look to worship Outer Gods beyond Hastur often pray to him as the Speaker of the Beyond, the chosen voice and agent of the Outer Gods.
Imperor, Celestial Conductor
Area of Concern: Celestial bodies, justice, patterns and synchronicity.
Imperor is the Celestial Conductor, the god of stars. Formerly the god of the sun, Imperor gave up that seat to Mariel such that she may combat her old nemisis, Ar'athaz. After losing authority over the sun, Imperor devotes his energies to guiding the stars through the sky, creating patterns and readings for those trained to read them. It is said that Imperor also guides people together, ensuring that chance enounters occur. Imperor is also recogised most commonly as a god of justice, the impartial judge of the heavens themselves. Many courts that try to impress draw upon the Conductor's name feature celestial elements in their construction.
Mariel, Source of Radiance
Area of Concern: Light, angels, punishing evil and might.
Once an angel, Mariel leads her former fellows into holy crusade against fiends of all kinds. The Goddess of Light, Mariel rose to power to combat her archnemesis, Ar'athaz. Their conflict has raged across the universe for thousands of years. Mariel gathers those who share her desire to punish evil and protect the weak, any who seek to strike down the wicked can find a place at her side. Her largest following is in the Kingdom of Bahseria, a nation for whom she serves as a patron goddess.
Tartallia, the Lady in Shadow
Area of Concern: Metal, darkness, blending and secrets.
Tartallia was formely a powerful Zuhra, was once in line to become an Elemental Lord. When that honor was passed over her to her brother, she flew into a rage. Vowing to claim what was righfully hers, Tartallia left the Plane of Metal in search of power. Her actions following that event are shrouded in mystery, with many believing that she played a role in the ascension of Ar'athaz. For after his ascension, the King of Lies struck down the former god of darkness, allowing Tartallia to step in and replace them. While the Lady in Shadow has given up on the title of Elemental Lord, she still resides upon the Plane of Metal. There she spreads her dark influence, tainting the land with the secrets she learned during her absence. Her followers are those of prize secrecy above all else, often willing to get their hands dirty to achieve their goals. Any willing to use underhanded tactics in a fight, or to draw upon the unique power of Tartallia's shadow blades shall find themselves welcomed by the Lady in Shadow.
Asdan, Voice of Vengeance
Area of Concern: The betrayed, the vengeful, the wronged, those who live on their own terms.
Asdan was once the tail of Zrelesh, before the Thousand Faced Serpent cut off his tail in an escape. After struggling on it's own for centuries, the tail grew its own name and consiousness, and Asdan was born. Seeking vengeace, Asdan opposes Zrelesh at all costs, even obtaining a seat as a Major Deity to put pressure on his old enemy. The god of vengeace has little time for mortal affairs, but has attracted a following of those who consider themselves betrayed or wronged. His philosophy to rely only on himself resonates with others as well. To those who share his history, the Voice of Vengeance lends his strength, claiming them after death so that he might use them against his hated foe.
Dalagar, King of Beasts
Area of Concern: Beasts, nature, control and taming the wild.
Dalagar is one of the most recent ascensions. The King of Beasts claimed his title by gaining control over the previous King, claiming their seat as a Major Deity. Dalagar is a tamer of beasts, one who bends nature to his whim rather than embody it's aspects. He is the patron of hunters and trackers, any who attempt to bend the natural world to their whims. He is said to command hundreds of unique creatures and beasts, which he sends to aid his most devoted followers. Some rulers also offer praise to Dalagar, drawing on his aspects of control to aid in their rulership.
Jemari, Waveborne Explorer
Area of Concern: Exploration, defeating monsters, treasure
Jemari, an Elemental Lord of Water, champions explorer's and adventurers. Descending to the Material Plane after confict with Lythanderos, the other Elemental Lord of Water, Jemari has committed her life to exploring the deepest reaches of land and sea. Her calling is to discover all secrets, and plunder all hidden treasures. Her followers include adventurers, sailors and some pirates who all abide to her call of adventure and treasure seeking.
Scenesis, Legends Safeguard
Area of Concern: Myths, unity, scents and community.
Scenesis, the Hazy Lord, is the god of myths and legends. Frequently referred to as the patron of Minor Gods, Scenesis's teachings revolve around community and unity. As one of Armaizte's patron deities, Scenesis gathers together the many minor gods that roam the land and brings them together, provided a place where all can be worshipped. The Hazy Lord is often represented either wreathed or made out of smoke or mist, and his religious practices all involve smoke and scent to some degree.
Charr, the Blazing Claw
Area of Concern: War, combat, courage and dominion.
Charr, the Beast of War is a god that exists for conflict. The Blazing Claw enjoys the thrill of combat, the joy of dominion, the fruit of war. Charr is the god of war and battle, no matter how great or small. He takes no sides, but demands all involved give their all in the fight. Anything won from such battles naturally belongs to the victor, through the right of might. As the patron of Ascalon, Charr encourages his followers to expand their territory through combat, to overwhelm any who stand before them. Warriors, generals and any who take joy from battle, or use it to achieve their ends finds company with Charr.
Ceralia, Guardian of Faith
Area of Concern: Faith, belief, protection, destroying fiends.
Ceralia is goddess that asks absolute faith from her worshipers. The Guardian of Faith has always stood by those who believe in her, both as a god and prior to her ascension, when she was an angel. Ceralia holds that faith can overcome any obstacle, and rewards those who place their faith in her and others. She is the guardian of those people. She is a patron of protectors and guardians, those who respond appropriately to the faith placed in them.
Rali, Lord of Comets
Area of Concern: Fire, sun, comets, and ambition.
The Lord of Comets is the blazing patron of ambition, reflecting in the starlit sky. Originally an simple elemental, Rali's ambiton drove to ever greater heights, until he became the Lord of Comets. He has carved out a realm for himself in the Plane of Fire, and claims dominion over the Plane in it's entirety, despite not being one of the Elemental Lords of Fire. Most of Rali's attention and followers exist on the Plane of Fire, but his actions have still inspired worship on the material plane. He is the patron of those with great ambition, especially those who desire to achieve beyond what their station allows.
Konogan, the God of Honor
Area of Concern: Vows, honour, tradition and giantkind.
The God of Honor is one of the few gods to reside upon the surface of Vria. The living god of Azoria, Konogan is not often invoked by those beyond Halavand's northern reaches. His most common adherents are the giants who live in Azoria. Beyond his nation, Konogan is known as the God of Honor. When honourable duels are called or sacred vows are engaged, people will offer prayer to Konogan, to recogise the sacred nature of their vow, or punish any who would besmirch the honour of a given fight.
Karma, The Balance
Area of Concern: Balance, order, morality and the karmic cycle.
The Balance is one of the most well known gods in Vria. Karma observes this universe and ensures all concepts within are balanced agaisnt all others. Good must never exceed evil, chaos must never exceed law, destruction must never exceed creation. Karma ensures that while all concepts may fight each other for supremacy, none ever gain an absolute upper hand. Karma's edicts often involve living a life of balance, that bad deeds will be repaid to you in bad, and good in good, that all things exist in a cycle. The Karmic Church is widespread across Vria, and is responsible for maintaining the universal calendar.
Amon, the God of Mischief
Area of Concern: Trickery, value, deceit and truth.
The Lord of Deceit is frequently confused with the King of Lies, as the two share many traits. Both are former Cthonic Lords that ascended to divinity, and both of their divine domains revolve around trickery. But the Great Deciever is most certainly distinct from the Source of Lies, and the two often have conflict with each other. Where Ar'athaz focuses on the destructive results of trickery, Amon asks his followers to use trickery to live their best lives. Amon is the patron of stagecraft and performers, any who use tricks and deceit to live. His teachings revolve around living a life of value, one filled with entertainment. You only have one life, live it well. Whatever his followers commit themselves to, they are to commit themselves fully to it. Amon is frequently associated with illusions, as one who determines the value of truth itself.
